Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My compact frigidaire (frt05lg3dwo) ices up behind the panel in the freezer and then will not cool the freezer or the fridge compartment. I'm sure there is no airflow once the ice builds up in the freezer so that is why it wont cool down but the question is why is ice building up so quickly? It usually builds up 3 or 4 days after I've completely defrosted it by unplugging the unit and letting it sit for a day or so. Isn't this a frost free regrigerator? perhaps something is wrong with the defrost cycle???? Thanks

Mine does the same. Behind the panel in the freezer there is a sensor. The sensor should trigger the heating mechanism to melt the ice before it builds up. I believe the sensor/thermostat part number is KSD303A. I have tried to google but no such luck. If you can find this part online please send me an email dai082566@yahoo.com.

Thanks.

Fridge is not cooling

Check compressor is working. If working check freezer is working. If freezer is working with full of ice, check for auto defrost. If not, manually defrost it. In maximum units the main problem is fridge not cooling but freezer working alright. As over ice formed and covered up fan side (Behind Freezer), there won't be cooling in fridge compartment. Thanks.

Bottom fridge compartment is warm (60deg). Top freezer working good. Is cold control unit replaceable by customer?

it may not be your cold colntrol. it is more likely the defrost terminator or the heating element (both located in the freezer section) or the defrost timer (located in the refrigerator section). you most likely have an ice buil-up on the evaporator coil that is preventing proper circulation of air accross the coil and into the refrigerator section.

thick frost on the back wall indicates a defrost problem, either with the defrost control, the heater, or the bimetal thermostat. Without personal inspection, i cant tell you which one it is, but i can narrow it down to those three

Freezer cold fridge not need some solutions

check to see if the evaporator is completely cover in ice.(evaporator is the cooling coil located behind the back panel of the freezer). If it is then you may need a defrost timer. Also make sure the fan in the evaporator compartment is running (if your unit has one)

Freezer is icing up behind back panel, so fridge not cooling

There are two components that are supposed to take care of this problem. One is a heater that defrosts the system (not really frost free) and the other is a timer that turns the heater on and off at predetermined intervals.
If the heater or timer fails, the system will frost up and block the path of cool air not allowing the freezer to cool down.

Side by side fridge not cooling, not making ice

if it seems like the evaporator is getting cold then your sealed system should appear to be ok. you need the evap fan to transfer cold air into fresh food section. if not turning u need to replace fan motor. make sure your not getting to much frost build up on the evap.

Frigidaire FRS26ZSGRefrigerator is no longer cooling, and the freezer side has a little frost/ice at the back of the inside compartment and is about as cool as the refrigerator side should be.

Your auto defrost is not working. remove the rear assembly inside the freezer and melt any builtup ice with a hair dryer. Then check the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. If OK then check the defrost timer located either in the fridge compartment behind the temp control or under fridge in frount behind grill. A continuity test is good for timer contacts. Heater is typ. 30 - 40 ohms. Thermostat will read short short below 35 degrees and open above 45 degrees. Timer motor winding has a series capacitor and must be tested as such. Watch out for stalled or slow running motors that look OK. PS. : QUICK TEST - The timer can be turned with a screw driver through a service access hole. With the back - of - freezer plate off turn timer till it clicks and you hear compressor turn off, this is the defrost cycle (7-10min). Use it to see if the heater is getting hot.

The turn dial that controls your fridge temp also controls the freezer temp. The freezer air is directly forced into the freezer compartment and then sent to the reigerator. Adjust the dial for the fridge not to be so cold and it will adjust the feezer also. Allow about 24 hours for any noticeable change.
