Question about Mackie 1604 Vlz3 16 Channel Mixer

1 Answer

I have Mackie mixer cfx12 all the channels work except for channels 2 & 3, I turn the pre amp trim pot all the way up but no input is present, I also tried solo PFL for these two channels and no presents of audio? I have the board apart as I just replaced trim and fader pot on channel one. The ribbon cables is getting good contact from the main board to the expiation board for ch's 1-4, the connections from the input jack board to the eq board all solider joint are good. any suggestions?

I suspect one of the upfront IC amps has been damaged. This can happen if people power the mixer from a receptacle that is different from where other connected equipment is powered such as amp. For example, mixer is at one end of the hall and other inouts such as an output of a guitar amp is plugged in. If a ground fault or spike occurs, teh ground bounce can exceed the common mode voltage of the input amps.

In your case, the inpout amps are discrete transistor types.

A voltage surge into the inputs of your unit would LIKELY pop two bypass caps that are 330pf. For channel 2 these are C205 and C206. Check those for shorts.

VERIFY audio is available at the "send" (tip) of the channel insert connector... this verifies the preamp stage. You can PROBABLY plug a set of headphones in to check this... ONLY one side will have sound of course. Verify this is a good test by checking a working channel. The level will be quite low and we are looking for just some signal.

IF you do have signal on the channel insert send which is the "tip" of the channel insert with the trim turned up, let me know and I will check the schematic for the next thing to check farther down the line.

Mackie CFX12, right side output not working? Help!

Assuming if you pan hard left on an input it comes out the left and panning hard right goes nowhere and as you say the tape input feeds through to both sides OK there is a very limited number of places where the problem can be. If you are confident open it up and check all the connectors and cables. If anything has come loose this may find it, otherwise it's a trip to the repair shop. The largest cost will be the taking apart and putting back together as the repair itself should be a simple one and diagnostics easy.

No sound

This is not a powered mixer and so you must connect a power amp to the "line level" outputs of the mixer. Other "no output" problems could be related to buss assignments and other signal routing issues. Check for output by connecting "Main Out" left or right to a guitar amp input instead BUT turn all volumes down to zero before conductiong this test as guitar amps are designed for "Microphone" level inputs. Make sure you are using BALANCED interconnection cables to the speakers, either XLR or TRS connections. ALSO make sure all interconnected equipment such as the speakers AND the mixer are powered from the SAME receptacle at the venue... yes you have to run extension cords... the pro's do it so they don't have hum and other noise and don't damage their equipment.

Im trying to connect a peavey kb300 with a mackie micro series 1402-VLZ 14 channel mic/line mixer

The mixer is stereo and the amp is mono. The line level out of the mixer MAY overwhelm the KB2 regular inputs so try running the mixer into the PA input jack.

How can I set up my mackie 1402 mixer so I can have (2) monitor mixes

This unit has 2 AUX sends, both of which can be used as monitor mixes. The top controls on each channel determine the pre-fade level for each mix.

Conenct a cable from the AUX out (either 1 or 2) to an amp. The only restriction is that the level control is a knob rather than a slider.

If you have any other questions, please update this and I'll try to answer for you.

How to connect effects processor to mackie 1602 mixer

Should be an Aux 1 or 2 output jack on the right side of the mixer. You can come out of the 1 or 2 OUTPUT jack to the input on your processor, and then from the output of the processor to Effects return or to a channel input. By going to a channel input you can then blend the processor's signal with a slider into the sound system with the other channels, while adding tone if needed. By going back into the Effects return, you just blend it overall by adjusting the Effects return knob.
To feed the channels through the processor, turn the AUX 1 or 2 knob up on each individual channel you want to go through the processor. Make sure the AUX 1 (or 2 if you are using that) MASTER knob is turned up on the right side of the console, otherwise nothing will go to the processor. You should see the processors' input light showing signal, if not check your connections. Good luck

With a stereo splitter cable that takes the stereo 1/8 plug of the computer into two RCA plugs you could go into the "Tape Input" of the mixer... OR take a 1/8 stereo splitter cable from the PC splitting to a pair of 1/4 inch plugs go into one of the 4 stereo input pairs on the mixer... like 7 and 8 or 9 and 10 for example.

No sound

Your power amp should be connected to MAIN OUT left and right. NOT the MAIN "in".

The CD is connected correctely as you described. Make sure the CD has a line level output to match the input expected by the mixer.
Note:Walkman style CD players require a special cable to go between 1/8 inch stereo to dual RCA plugs.

You have to advance the MAIN fader.

You should be using TRS interconnect cables from the mixer to your amps OR using XLR cables.

Connection of two sound boards

Refer to your EV user manual, page 23, part 2.

You run the outputs of the Mackie into the stereo "returns" on the EV.

Use TRS interconnect cables as these are balanced lines.

Trim pots on Behringer PMP3000 don't change consistently

Make sure you are plugging the inputs into the inputs and NOT the inserts. It is easy to get them wrong and put them into the insert jack right below the correct one!

You don't say if you are using XLR or 1/4 connectors. If you are using XLR, then verify that your source has the ground to the cable.

Use headphones to see if they act the same as your mains before doing anything else.

Make sure your speaker leads are correct and you are NOT set to bridged mode on the slide switch. The switch should be clear up to L/R.
