Good day,
One of 2 causes. The valve sticks in the open position and won't close, or the ice maker electrical circuit tells it to keep filling.

99% of the time it is a defective water valve located on the back bottom of the machine. Changing it is basically a nuts and bolts job. Fairly easy.
If however the problem resurfaces you would need to replace the ice maker but since it is common practice to install a new valve when installing a new ice maker, it's really no loss.

Ice maker not making ice

Check and see if a cubes or cubes are stuck in the ejection fingers. If the ice mold is full try cleaning the bottom coils. If the ice mold is empty check the water valve solenoid. Most times both the ice maker and water valve gets replaced at the same time. Nothing inside the ice box controls the ice maker. It does it all itself all it needs is for their to be 35f in the freezer or better.

I have an admiral American fridge freezer. The ice maker is continuously leaking water if the power is switched on as though a switched on. How can I stop the water ?

To verify if its the valve or the ice maker the easiest way would be to unplug the machine and then turn the water on. If the water stops, then the ice maker is bad and is continuously applying power to the valve causing the flood problem and should be changed. If the water keeps on coming out then the valve is bad and stuck open and should be changed.

I woke up this morning to a flooded kitchen due to the ice maker, in my Amana refrigerator, not making ice and just pouring out water. What is the problem?

Either the switch in the ice maker is stuck keeping the valve open or the valve has stuck. Unplugging the frig will tell you which it is. If the water stops when the frig is unplugged it is the switch. If it does not then it is the valve.

Ice maker water wont shut off continues to run even when tray is full

The ice maker water fill solenoid may be leaking by and needs to be replaced. If you disconnect the water line from the solenoid and you see it continues to flow water then that valve is not seating properly. Another slight possiblility is the ice maker motor module gear is stuck in the fill position. See the attached link for a diagram. If the geared wheel just happens to get stopped in the "fill" position it will fill with full force water. If there is only a trickle of water then the soleinoid valve is the more likely source of the problem. http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA56-20.gif http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA56-16.gif
