Question about Xantrex Technology Xpower Powerpack 400 Plus Inverter And Air Compressor

1 Answer

We bought this 400 plus power pack about 4 years ago and have been keeping it charged most of the time when not using it. Suddenly it will not run for a full 2 hours. We use it to power a TV to show videos to an audience. Now it makes a high pitched sound after about l hour and 15 to 30 minutes and then goes off all together. It will come back on if you flick the switch on and off but will stay on only for 2 minutes or so after that until the next charge (which is usually 22 hours. What is wrong?

Like most storage batteries, the ones in this unit have a limited life. Automobile batteries get a max of about 5 years, the ones in these units often fail in three...

Replace the storage batteries in the unit and you will get another 3 to 5 years service.

Li-ion battery packs in laptops have a circuit board that prevents overcharging. Unfortunately it also keeps count of the number of times the battery pack has been through a charge/discharge cycle and eventhough the batteries maybe still be good; IT keeps batteries from accepting a full charge and and that is why they will not keep a charge for as long as they did when new. Also if any battery in the pack goes bad it effects the whole pack because of the way they are assembled.

Can't locate the fuses.

There are no fuses inside a car stereo unit. The fuse protection is outside on the power circuit. Does it do anything when you power it on?

I assume this is a cordless device ? if so than the intelligent charging devices used to charge the battery's is sensing a defective battery pack, if the battery pack is completely dead then this is a fault, you can try to flash charge the battery pack with a power supply that has no intelligence device.
when you get a bit of a charge in the battery pack try to install it into the charger again.
this works most of the time and be car-full to only flash for several min or so and use a 12 volt light IE Brake light bulb from a car in series with the power supply to regulate current.
also make cretin that the polarity is correct plus to plus and minus to minus.

Good luck and best regards Falco Mueller

I have a car booster pack that when plugged in to the wall it shows it is charging, but when you check on charge status it has not charged at all. What could be wrong with it?

Those things are like a little garden tractor battery inside
If it went dead over time and got frozen the battery may
be bad ,whey don't seem to do well unless used often.

No problem just bought a mpd-1760 from someone its brand new never even been used ,but no instructions/need to know how long to charge battery for first time or at all //charging time for battery to watch...

Hello,
To charge the battery back you want to
  1. Turn the power off the DVD player first as the battery pack will not charge with the power on.
  2. Attach the battery pack to the player.
  3. Connect the AC power adapter and the power cord to the player.
  4. Charging will now start and the Power/Charge indicator should now be orange.
  5. Do not unhook either cord until the Power/Charge turns off.
  6. Time of charging is approximately 4 1/2 hours.
  7. The battery pack will more than likely get warm while charging. This is normal. Keep it as much in the open as you can for the best ventilation possible.
  8. You will get a low power indicator on the screen when the battery has a low charge.

As for playback time you will get about 2 1/3 hours of actual playback and about 4 hours of standby with the DVD player actually on.
Regards, Tony

My 600 watt 12 volt transformer timer for out door lighting does not keep time properly. HOw do I get and install a new timer?

1) Amazon sells 600Watt power pack:
http://www.amazon.com/Malibu-8100-9600-01-Voltage-Power-Transformer/sim/B002ZRPM4A/2

2) I bought new 300Watt Malibu power pack at Home Depot about 2 months ago.
Near the lighting section.
My new power pack has electronic time clock, so no more 'slow clock.'
I think Home Depot had 600Watt.
Lowes carries different brand.

3) Manuals for power packs at Malibu lights.com
http://www.malibulights.com/customer_service/owners_manuals.aspx

4) Tips for buying and taking care of power pack:
-Match up wattage of bulbs with wattage of power pack
-15 each X 20 watt bulbs = 300 watts, so install 300Watt power pack
-Installing a 500W power pack on 300W of bulbs will burn out bulbs and power pack.
-Replace bulbs as soon as they burn out or other bulbs will burn out and power pack will burn out.
-When working on bulbs, unplug power pack or it may burn out.
http://www.malibulights.com/guides_support/low_voltage_planning_guide/select_your_power_pack

5) How to install power pack.
Before unplugging old power pack, check which bulbs are not working.
Replace bulbs using phillips screwdriver.
Unplug power pack.
Notice how wires are connected to power pack, write down terminal connections.
Some power packs have three terminals ... extra terminal is for additional photoelectric eye.
Use pliers or screwdriver to disconnect wires.
New power pack has has same terminals.
Plug in power pack.
Read instruction manual before connecting wires.
Save instruction manual because a few years that manual won't be around as products change.
