Xbox bottom right ring is blinking red

I checked the cables, everything looks secure. MS wants over $100 to repair. Do you think new cables will fix the probelm?

Thanks

I dont think its wise to send it for over $100? why not just try it with $10-15, and use the DIY guide available in the market, which has proven to work for 99% of problems?I run a repair shop and fix 2-5 consoles on daily average basis.
You can also try the XBOX360 Repair Guide
You will also be able to fix all common problem with the xbox console.
Hope this will help you fix your problem as well!

This is taken off of teamxbox.com

It is an explanation of the bottom right light blinking red, how to tell exactly what it is, and so on. If there is general hardware failure on your xbox, microsoft posted on their site that you send it in for free repair and also get 3 year extension to your warranty.

Use this guide to determine exactly what is wrong, what hardware is failing, and hopefully we can figure something out. Please get back with me when you can, I would really like to get you up and running again, cause I know how it was when I couldnt play my xbox, I hated it. Good luck!

The Specific Type of hardware failure can be determined by the error code displayed on the screen.
If the screen is blank or you would like additional information follow the instructions for determining the secondary error code in the section below

E65: DVD Drive Error.... DVD Timeout, Wrong firmware, dvd is without f/w chip, etc.

E67: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it

E68: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it, This can also be caused by a Hard Drive Eprom Error.

E69: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. (could also be a problem with the encoder chip)

=============================

--==SECONDARY ERROR CODES==-

The specific type of hardware failure can be determined by a "hidden" error code

  • Turn the xbox 360 on, and wait till the 3 red lights are flashing.
  • Press and hold the sync up button (the small white one), while holding that button press the eject button.
  • The LEDs will now blink the first number in the code (as described below).
  • Release the eject button and press it again.
  • The LEDs will now blink the second number of the code.
  • Release the eject button and press it again.
  • The LEDs will now blink the third number of the code.
  • Release the eject button and press it again.
  • The LEDs will now blink the forth number of the code.
  • Release the eject button and press it again.
  • The LEDs will go back to the 3 red flashing lights.

You should be able to determine the difference between the 3 flashing lights and the error code lights by the rate in which they flash.

Here is how you interpret the LEDs to get the code number:
  • All four lights flashing - 0
  • One light flashing - 1
  • Two Lights flashing - 2
  • Three lights flashing - 3

E74: I/O Hardware Error - HSIO related, could be crc error, or many things: There is high chance it's a scalier chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. Microsoft covers this error under their 3-year warranty, this is available to anyone who hasn't modified their console. contact MS to get a free replacement console before attempting to fix this yourself. Failing that this error In some cases it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing the x-clamp replacement.

One red part on the ring, bottom right, what can be done?

Usually with one red light an error code or "E code" will be displayed on the TV screen. The most common is E74 a GPU/HANA chip related ( graphics problem). These errors are a little tougher to fix then 3 Red Rings. First I'd check to see if you are still covered under the warranty here.
If you are not covered by warranty and don't feel like giving MS more of your money we can repair your Xbox for you. Our website is here.
If you'd like to repair it yourself check out this site.
Keep in mind you will need to reball the solder joints to fix one red light in most cases... X-clamp replacement will not suffice. Let me know if you have any more questions.

If you get Red Ring of Death you need to first check how may red rings are you getting and do you see any error message on screen with red ring or the console does not start at all

When there is a general hardware failure. While this can be caused by any part(or lack thereof) on the 360, the general cause is from excessive heat, which stresses the solder joints on the CPU and GPU

What Do The Red Light Errors Mean?

* 1 light means you have had general hardware failure. If you to send it in to get it repaired, without a warranty would cost. Not to mention it can take up to a month for you to get your system back.
* 2 lights mean your console is over heating---TURN IT OFF NOW TO AVOID SERIOUSLY DAMAGING YOUR SYSTEM!
* 3 lights also mean general hardware failure.
* 4 lights simply mean there is a problem with the AV cable. Check the connection and replace if necessary.

basically when you get a RRoD you can try cleaning the connection point of your AV cable but if it does not work please send it to MS Support for repairs, i had 3 Red light problem and with error message E74 i send it Microsoft Support as my console was under warranty

How long does a xbox 360 warranty last?

The Red ring warranty was extended to 3 years and the rest of the errors are covered for 1 year. You are better off finding a local repair shop. Microsoft charges between $100 and $150 for most repairs now, and most local repair shops will fix it for less than $100. I have seen repairs offered for as little as $45 for the RROD. You could buy a new XBOX 360 Arcade and transfer your hard drive, you would get a new machine with the new processor and quieter DVD drive.

Lower right quadrent blinking red

MS suggests power up the unit without the hard drive. Also, you'll want to disconnect all ports (USB, Controllers, etc). After you have powered up, turn it back off, and connect everything again.

What is the error code at the bottom of the screen & check for flashing red lights on the power button if 3 illuminate it the infamous RROD(Red Ring of Death-google it) which you will get a free repair for if its the bottom right quadrant flashing red then its most probably E74 or E61. E61 is a hard drive related problem so try playing without it, & E74 is the AV cable snapped inside or the GPU/CPU inside the xbox 360 has weak solders on it, I suggest MS support ASAP.

Bottom right of xbox ring is blinking red, says system error E 74

This means that there is probably a problem with your video/audio cables.

First make sure that they are plugged in all the way both on your tv, and to your xbox.

If that doesnt work, a different (new) set of cables should work and fix your problem.

E74 is an error that has two possibilities one is that your AV cable has gone bad. Swap it out and see if that fixs the issue.

If that doesnt work then you need to contact MS, your GPU / Scaler chip has gone bad and MS needs to replace it. There is no fix for this like there is for the red ring error. hope this helps
