Hi, I wouldn't replace the thermostat if the compressor isn't running. I don't know what kind of system you have, but normally when a compressor does not start and run, it could be a faulty run capacitor, the compressor may be shorted internally, no power to the compressor due to the run capacitor. I wouldn't waste the money on a thermostat until you find out what is causing the compressor not to run. Normally, it would not be the stat. If I knew the name of the unit, and if it were a central heating and cooling system, or a wall or window unit, this would help in trouble shooting it, but when a compressor does not start, its either a bad compressor, run capacitor, or its off on its overload due to loss of freon, drawing to high of amperage, Ect. These are things that need to be checked if you are able to do this kind of work with your hands and have some experience with electrical trouble shooting. So, if you can, look at the run cap to see if it is swollen, leaking oil, or deformed, put your hand on the compressor after the unit has been on for sometime to see if it is hot, be careful not to burn your hand. This will tell you there is a problem internally in the compressor. Please keep me posted.
Sincerely,

Can hear compressor, cois get frosty but fan cuts out after five minutes. Why?

IF THE FAN IS CUTTING OUT U MAY HAVE STUCK TIMER IN THE DEFROST CYCLE MODE BUT MORE LIKELY U HAVE A POWER ISSUE, IS THIS A digital cold control thermostat? if so the control board itself may not be communicating with the thermostat, when the fan cuts out does the compressor keep running? and no clicking sounds?

I have a kegerator. It's not functioning. When plugged in no clicking no sound nothing. Wondering if it's the overload switch or relay.

http://www.haieramerica.com/en/asset/product/1ffd77cfa0
This site has your product manual for your dispenser but it is very vague on trouble shooting the cooling system.
In general, the compressor is controlled by a thermostat that is usually located in the conditioned space. It cycles the compressor on and off based on the sensed temperature and the setting that it is adjusted to.
So, let's talk in general refrigeration terms. Where the compressor is located, is there a fan? If so, is it running? That fan is usually the condenser fan and is wired to come on anytime the compressor is supposed to be running. If the fan is running and the compressor is not, then there is an issue with the compressor. If the fan is not running and the compressor is not running, then there is an issue with either power or the thermostat. If the compressor is running and the fan is not, then there is an issue with the fan.
This is a good starting point. Let me know if I can be of further help.

this is the wall between the freezer and the frg i think . it is warm when the compressor is running . and if hot / then look under neath unit and i thing you will fing the coils ar very dirty or the fan is not going or both . so clean coils every 3 to 4 times a year and repl fan if it has failed . and things will get better .. ,mm

Problem with kenmore side by side leaking

2 things could be wrong first is you compressor running if is not running you have to check the overload to see if it tripp if it did it will sound like a babys rattle just repl and compressor should kick back on if is running then is you evaporator motor running if is not then check for volatge at the wires if you get 118 then repl your motor. is the unit defrosting is there a lot of ice on the back cover it might not be so 3 thing might be failing 1 timer 2 defrost thermostat 3 heater coil call a tech to have those check out thanks

Kenmore fridge model#596.52679200 side by side

remove back cover on evaporator inside frezeer if is full of ice all over then you have a defrost problem and you might have a faulty defrost timer or defrost thermostat repl both so you wont go wrong if the coils are clean and not frost is on coils then check compressor to see if its running just by touching you can find out if it si not running then you have a faulty relay or overload repl and compressor should start.if there is only partial frost then you have a leak or restriction depending when you bought it most refrigerators have a maufactures warranty on compressor for about 5 years call for service on the number on the sticker inside refirgerator

Carrier home heat

If the unit is manual control there are two knobs in the control the thermostat and the selector switch. If your selector switch is in fan position the fan will run and the compressor will be "off"(even if you "off" and "on" your thermostat), if your selector switch is in cool position and your thermostat is in "on" position the compressor and fan will both run. But if the thermostat is in "off" position and your selector knob is in cool position the fan will run but the compressor will be "off".
