As always I start with the dreaded question. Did you use a refilled cartridge in your printer? If so, remove it and install a new HP cartridge. Recycled cartridges are famous for this type of failure. By the way the error code is a Windows error code. If you haven't found a solution to the " ink system failure " yet, it is quite easy to reset (using the buttons) on HP C7180. You can find the reset instructions on my website: http://www.inkbank.com.au/webcontent21.htm
Try this:
I had a similar Ink System error occurring on my printer and eventually it would constantly power
on and off. Apparently some defective components were used in the
construction of the logic board (see photo). On my C6180 there were 3
failed capacitors (the green cylinders - the puffed top indicates
failure) and a 4th from the same manufacturer (TEAPO - many unfavorable
web references to this manufacturer). I purchased 3x 330uF 16V and 1x
680uF 10v rated to 105 degrees Celsius (total about 60cents). On the
logic board, the capacitors I replaced are labeled C613, C614, C660 and
C662. If you are not comfortable replacing the parts yourself (or don't
have a soldering tool), you will have to find someone who will. The time
to repair should be less than 30 min - I did it in 25 min with only a
solder pen. This also fixed the ink system failures the printer was
having. A similar fix may apply to other printers.
Hello, We have an article posted on our web site that gives
step by step instructions to clear the "ink system failure" error. The
information can be found at : http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/category/printer-repair/hp-printer-repair/ The reset takes about 5 minutes to perform and then you should be back printing again.
I hope this helps you get their printer back printing.
Go to http://www.ccl-la.com/blog and search for HP Photosmart. They have two protocols for clearing ink system failure errors. One resets the machine and the other re-primes ink through the lines.
IssueAn 0xc18xxxxx or 0xc19xxxxx ink system error code displays on the front panel. The printer cannot copy, receive faxes, or print. Solution Press the On button to turn the printer off. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. Remove all the ink cartridges. Wait two minutes. Plug the power cord into the back of the printer. Press the On button to turn the printer on. Install the ink cartridges when prompted. If the error code does not display, the issue is resolved. If the 0xc18xxxxx or 0xc19xxxxx ink system error code displays on the front panel, service the printer.
