the files are defineatley .WMV files. and i just want to print a copy of 4 files so my insignia 1001 dvd player will recognize the files, and play the movies.

  • greg_wegner Sep 15, 2010

ok, what i have done is take home video from 4 cameras and use movie maker to make 4 movies. Then i tried to print a dvd with roxio 7.0.

didnt work on insignio 1001 dvd player - unknown disk

then took same 4 movies and used anysoft Any Video convertor to change 4 movies to .AVI format, and tried DVD_NTSC format. Then burned each of those with roxio - and still no go on the REAL dvd player.

Hmm, when you say windows media player format, are they .wma files? Let me know what the exact format is and I can tell you what you need to use to do what you are looking for, it's definitely possible. Windows Media Player plays many types of files so I want to make sure.

Thanks
Tim

I see, it is definitely doable... what are you using for burning software? You will either need an all in one solution to convert the WMV's to dvd format, and then "burn"it automatically... or to convert them to dvd format (a VOB file for example) and then use your burning software to make the DVD. What do you usually use to burn dvds, or maybe you don't usually burn them at all? Possibly Nero.. something like that?

    Thanks, let me know

Here we go, I found a good solution that has a free trial, which should be all you need to burn your files.. I just hope it doesn't put some annoying "banner" or name across the movie when its actually on the DVD, but try it and find out, the most it will cost you is one blank dvd :). Here it is here, along with step by step guide w/ pictures on how to do it. It has the Free Trial Download at the top:

If you can't find the free trial download, here is a direct link:

Hmm, it may be a setting on the DVD player itself, many dvd players will not play burned dvd's no matter what. Are you sure the DVD player has played burned discs in the past? If not, do you have another home dvd player that you know for sure has played other burned discs to test these on? It definitely sounds like you did everything correctly, both times...

Ok let me know the result with the trial software, good to know that it will definitely play burned discs. It is definitely doable... let me know what happens with that software and we will go from there if need be.

    Thanks

Depends on the video file format. Or, how you have selected the formats in the Media player setups, open settings in media players or Windows default settings.

Cannot play DVD, cd video wont play to media player

not sure whether its a problem with the drive or a problem with windows media player. Take a can of air and blow some onto the laser of the dvd drive, this will make sure that there is no dirt or dust on the laser.

Once you do that put the dvd back into the drive. Give it about 20-30 seconds and then see if it tries to pull up the movie if it does and your getting errors from windows media player then we know that the drive is working cause its seeing the movie properly.

At that point, I would suggest downloading the latest version of windows media player.

Go here to download the latest version of Windows Media Player 11.

After doing that and installing it, try playing your movie again, in fact try several movies just to make sure. Windows Media player may want to download Codecs, if it does then let it. This will allow it to recognize dvds better and quicker.

If the codecs are updated and you still can't get it to see and play movies then I would suggest using a different dvd player such as Cyberlink PowerDVD located on this page:

Cannot get the visual from the videos

Today with HD High Definition TV these kind of problems appears because the new dvd players have more video resolution options, so, for playing all variety of dvd, and home done dvs,s (like family movies on dvd) you need set up your resolution video on your DVD player at 480i or 480p option, not higher because some DVD movies (mainly oldies) have lower resolution than newer , for example new movies on HD format have 1080 P resolution, and if you have this option chosen in your DVD player you only can see this kind of videos, on the other hand if you have chosen 480i or 480 p on your dvd player , you can play all dvd formats including home movies made with any movie software, in this way you can play dvd-r and +r movies and of cours you can play HD movies also. So put some dvd where your dvd player works well (you need see the dvd menu in the tv screen), then press stop. Then press setup in your remote control, go to video resolution and choose 480 I or 480p, then press ok AND ENJOY THE MOVIE.

Windows media player doesnt play dvd movies

Simply install a DVD player separately or DVD Codec for Window's Media Player. The reason why Window's Media Player can not play the DVD movies is that it does not has a DVD codec to play it. The simplest solution to do it is to install a DVD Player program and Window's Media Player will start playing DVD movies.

Hey Carol,

Use the Arc-Soft converter that came with the player to convert your video files to a compatible format for the player.

You can perform a "Drag & Drop" like with a USB thumb drive/portable drive if you change the USB settings to "file & folder"...then just drag and drop to the player.

the converstion process will take a while...so have a coffee while you wait. Once it's done, it should be ready to play on the player.

Good luck!

Well the songs you are trying to put on your mp3 player are probably too big. You can change your settings in Windows Media Player or (whatever program you use to sync the songs) to convert the songs to mp3 format and change the quality. I suggest changing it to 128 or lower quality. Hopes this helps you out.
