yea that what has me it just acts like no power is commin to the blueray the insert sensor knows the disc is attempted to be inserted and it reconized a preloaded disc but it wont eject it and wont pull it in i thought of power inverter so changed that still no change but when the drive is inserted to another console it will operate smoothly but all othere features work flawlessly.only i havent tried was meter test for power got me that y im here. then the 2nd unit just no audio or video but u can see hard drive flicker bluray accepts and ejects u even hear it trying to read ur controller just flashes the lights like its charging and video reset dont do nothing for it either again stumped so i figured check with the professionals since im just starting to tinker with these units i dont think im to bad just not a pro right lol so any ideas of new things i could try thanks,Art other than replace the mother board

ok i have 2 ps3 units im trouble shooting both are cecha01 models both have been reflowed. now unit 1 everything works on the system except the blue ray i can attempt to insert disc and the drive will not **** it in though insert sensor reconized blue light flashes but nothing more i can put this blue ray player on another system and it works fine reads ,takes in disc and ejects with no problem checked power leads at board are working so not sure what else to do on the blue ray issue.

that said unit 2 system powers up but at start up watching the tv it does a black flash then nothing more on screen though u see hd activity and blue ray accepts and ejects disc u can hear it reading disc but no video or audio even attempted to reach diagnostic screen but nothing on video other than quick flash on screen stumped besides sending in for repair how can i trouble shoot this ive replaced video av cables nothing changes plz help thanks,Art

on the video/audio model prob ive already donethat and no changes i was thinkin the the chip may be bad but wasnt sure of if there was anything else it could be then if the chip is bad how heated would the chip need to be to remove it with of course preheating the rest of the board i only have a multi level temp heat gun with a 80 sec cool down

and on the blue ray prob model i have checked against another unit and the poer cable is receiving proper power to all terminals so im guessing the problem is within the communication ribbon connector in the board but where on the board is the controller for the blue ray i only know of the one the screws to the blueray which when the blueray is changed has to be used with the replacement blueray

With respect to your blu ray problem it sounds like the actual blu ray controller on the PS3 motherboard has gone. This could be just coincidence or it could of been a result of the re-flow. If the drive works in another PS3 and you have used all working parts in the re-flowed PS3 and it does not work then I am sure it is the motherboard that is at fault, there is nothing else it can be.

As to the other PS3 you re-flowed, I have heard of this problem before where there is no video after the re-flow process has been carried out. Again it is possible that the RSX display chip has been damaged but just try one thing before you decide to call it a day.

Turn the PS3 off into standby (red light on)
Press and hold the power button for two beeps (the first will be as soon as you press it)
Release the power button as soon as you hear the second beep.
This will force the PS3 to reinitialize the display and hopefully bring it back to life. If it does not work then something is damaged on the motherboard to do with either the image processor or the main RSX display chip

I hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

The blu ray chip is actually a flash memory chip that is on the motherboard, although thinking about it I can't see why this would affect the operation of the drive. It has to be a motherboard problem somewhere along the line though as the blu ray drive works on another PS3, no other way about it. As to the temperature of getting the GPU off the board, a very tricky process but with a little bit of luck you can heat it to up to about 200 degrees centigrade, that will allow the solder to become molten and then theoretically let you remove it from the board. Using a heat gun is not the best method however as this temperature is close to the GPU's temperature limit, it is a risky process unless you have a proper hot air/infra red machine to do it with.

    Hope this helps

Wow this is bizarre, you say the blu-ray drive works in one system, but not another? And you have used the data cable from the system it worked from and put it in the non working one and it still doesn't work? Have you tried the board and the data cable from the working system in the non working one? If at that point it still doesn't work, it has to be some power issue, there is no other possibility even, since at that point it is practically a whole new / different machine...

Doesn't make much sense, please verify that. The video problem on the second system sounds like a bad board as well... have you tried a whole new board in that one?

Yikes!

Hmm that is a very tough one, it sounds like a bad board indeed. I am racking my brain trying to think of what to try otherwise. If you put the board and blu-ray drives that work from the other machine, into the non working machine, do they function? Just ignore the blu-ray drive that you've been having the issue with for now. If they do NOT function in that other machine it confirms a bad power supply, or irregular voltage of some sort.

  • AnJPressWash Sep 19, 2010

ive tried power supply i actually tested the voltage in comparison to another working system same model the voltage is there im just not sure on the ide ribbon or what ever its specifically called how to check it im sure its circiutry related but im not sure where exactly

check the cable connections, if that fails it could be it's on it's way to YLoDing. What version is it? Early launch 60 gig models do YLoD if used on HDMI after a couple of years but are fine on SD. 40/80 gig ones do pretty much the same except they don't reflow very well.

Flux and reflow the motherboard if you do this the PS3 will work again or take the blue-ray deck out and plug it into another PS3 or take the blue-ray deck apart.

MY PS3 HAS FLASHING RED LIGHT BUT THE GAME IS STUCK INSIDE HOW CAN I REMOVE IT??

The 3 ways of getting your game out. NOTE: If you do #2 you will still have to flux and reflow the motherboard to reset the blue-ray drive.

1. Is to strip your system down to the motherboard so you can flux and reflow the board.

2. Is to open the blue-ray drive and take it out.
