Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

When scanner is turned on the light starts to blink immediately and the notice that the scanner cover is open comes up. The scanner cover is not open and the light continues to blink even if the machine is turned off/on and the computer is restarted.

I do not see the toggle switch you are referring to. This is the DR-2580C model. Can you tell me where the switch would be located?

  • dianne2889 Sep 16, 2010

Was able to get scanner light to stop blinking by using a paper clip as you suggested! Now the rollers aren't working. Any idea why they would not be grabbing the paper and unable to read that there is paper to be pulled in?

Please check the cover switch, you can find that by looking/running around the scanners edges, it would be a toggle like switch, that is actuated or press by a notch by the scanner cover itself.
The notch or the switch trigger should reach in the hole where the switch is located, if it doesnt, the error would be like this, it will say the cover is open yet you have closed it.
If you have located the switch hole, try operating the scanner with you pressing the switch, with the use of a hairpin or paper clip, just dont press on it too hard, very light press would suffice. if it operates with that procedure, and clears the blinking, the notch or actuator on the cover may not have been reaching the switch.
you can do the trick by gluing a piece of pin or clip just long enough to reach the switch on the hole.
If you are techy enough, you can try to copy the shape of the notch and try attaching it.
If you want to, you can also open up the scanner, and try replacing the switch with a taller button.
hope that clears your problem.

If you are using that model, it is situated right at corners on the insides of the scanner, to where the lid flaps or cover meets,

    try these steps,

open the upper lid:: do that by pressing the "OPEN" tab on the unit.
pull up the upper part slighlty, then close it again, pressing down with slight force until it clicks to place.

if you are using the flatbed addin, refer to its user manual

page 24 is about the straight path vs coming out the top - why that page?

I used the open lever and see the small gray notch buttons on the sides. pressing on the top/sides to make a better connection doesn't stop the blinking. it is definitely clicking into place - but still blinks.

If thats the case your scanner need servicing, the sensors and actuator switches may require replacement or repair. the situation simply tells that the scanner mechanism may have damages in the sensors, and no user can service that, because of the sensitivity of components inside.

Can you tell me where I would be able to get service for the scanner?

The best place for it be repaired, would be on the first on the list, is where from where have you bought the scanner from, they would be happy to help you out.
Next place is a store or a shop which is accredited or certified by your scanner manufacturer, which in your case is canon, just look for a shop bearing the canon logo accreditation.
Last place would be the canon global support which is here.

    for global
    http://www.canon.com/

    for USA
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/home

    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/about_cano...

depending on your location, you would find the nearest canon site to where you can bring or phone in your scanner for repairs.

As you have done, the lights went off, and stop blinking with the step I told you, simply means the sensors are jammed or non operational, try leaving something that presses that switch(without falling off) and perform scanning in the normal way.

My light doesnt come on when i break the sensor....and my learn light blinks none stop

Random blinking of the learn light is normal.

To have your lights come on automatically when you walk into an open garage, you must START with the lights ON. If you don't want that feature and you want to turn it off, you must START with the lights OFF.

To turn the feature on, turn the lights on manually with the wall switch, then press and hold the LIGHT button for about 10 seconds until the motor unit light bulbs flash. Now, if the light bulbs are on, manually turn them out and then walk out through the open door. The light bulbs should come on.

To disable this feature, start with the light bulbs OFF and everything else is the same.

Samsung HLN507W turns on for about one minute then shuts off, three blinking lights stay on in front. It is not the lamp, nor the blue lamp cover switch for sure. I unplug it and immediately turn it on. It always does the same thing: comes on for 1 minute, then powers down - there is no wait time in between unplugging and powering on. All fans seem to work and I cleaned the dust out of it. Help.

hi,
there is little chance for the board to be affected by the melting of plastic covers of light. if the circuitry is damaged by the heat, you'd notice the problems immediately, if it is working fine now, then there is no chance for this incident to affect the working in future.

cheers

Flashing lights and no printing

If the two lights are blinking persistently and the carriage is moving freely when the cover is opened then the logic board has problem and should be replaced. However, if there is some restriction of carriage movement or cracking noise, the optical cable should be replaced. Good luck

There 3 light on the printer that able to indicate to user when problem occur. Find your printer error accordingly as below and may solve your printer problem.

37d307a.jpg
1st button light blink rapidly = the printer may be out of paper, so load more paper and press the 1st button itself to continue. Or may be paper jam is occur, so clear the paper jam and press the 1st button light itself to continue.

If 1st button light blink slowly = mean the cartridge carriers are stuck, so raise the scanner unit and remove any object blocking the path of the cartridge carrier, make sure the cartridge are closed and installed properly, then lift the scanner unit, gently push the scanner support towards the cartridge carriers, and carefully lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed. After that press the 1st button itself to continue.

If 2nd LED light blinking = the color cartridge need to be replaced soon.

If 2nd LED light is ON = the color cartridge need to be replaced immediately.

If 3rd LED light blinking = the black cartridge need to be replaced soon.

If 3rd LED light is ON = the black cartridge need to be replaced immediately.

Hope this help.
