Question about Pentair 150k Minimax Ch Ng Mv Heater

Open Question

My pentair minimax 150 has a pilot light but will not ignite. I have checked the thermostats and have jumpered the sensors. I have good water flow. I am thinking it is the gas valve or thermocouple. I am getting millivolts out of the thermocouple, though. Can you assist?

More than likley this is a bad thermocouple and will need a new pilot assembly. But it can also be a short in the safty circut, rat chewed wires or a bad gas valve. It may be best to get a repairman involved. Or you can just drop each switch out of line and jump past them to check. But part changeing can get pricy. Good luck.

SOURCE: Pentair Minimax CH Propane Millivolt Ignition

If you are firing, and then going off and getting an E05, your igniter is to blame. It may be glowing but it's getting weak. The diagnostic goes further but that is usually the fix.. With inactivity, the igniter is always to blame. You really need to fire it off weekly to make it reliable and make sure that your heater is serviced at least one time a year to keep all the internal components operating as designed.

all these heaters have safety features that must test 'ok' before they will light. the first place to start is the pressure switch. if it doesnt sense water flow, you will not have heat

This could be high limits but more than likely this is a water flow problem. Check to be sure your by-pass is closed or nearly closed. If this is good then you need to remove the water manifold from the side of the heater. Inside you will find another by-pass assembly and you will need to replace this.
Before doing this you can take the wires from the limit switches one at a time and use a jumper wire to by-pass them. This won't tell you if they are bad though just if they are kicking off. If the water in the heater is that hot they are just doing their job.
Sort of a catch 22 but the best I can do from here. Hope this helps, good luck.

I have a PacFab MiniMax 100 pool heater. The pilot remains on... but the burner will not ignite unless I hit/jar the heater. Any suggestions on what may need replacement or repair?

First thing to check is the flow switch. You can bypass it temporarily, and see if it lights. DO NOT OPERATE IT WITHOUTH FLOW SWITCH. If it isn't the flow switch, then it could be the thermostat or a bad connection on this low voltage millivolt circuit.

Purex Triton Minimax 400 pool/spa heater not igniting

This sounds like you have a problem with your pilot. You can check this with a small mirror to see if their is a spark when you turn it on. If you have any soot build up on the pilot that will stop the spark and keep it from lighting also. If you have a short on your pilot wire this could be the problem also. I hope this helps, good luck.
