Question about Gateway E-475M Notebook

2 Answers

When I reload the OS (XP) on my E-475M laptop it says "The requested operation to be performed was unsuccessful" then it goes back to the beginning and asked to start again. I do see in the BIOS the disk drive and this was working fine and had the OS running before I started but I wanted to reload to get a clean load. Now it just cycles back to the beginning after trying to get the OS to load. There is now no OS on the laptop so nothing works. Any ideas?

Try formatting your partition and also do check whether SATA native mode is enabled in the BIOS if so disable it. Then try reinstalling Clean copy of XP followed by *********** board drivers. I guess this would help...

Sounds like your Installation Disc may be bad. Have you ever used this particular disc in the past to resinstall XP? If so, then make sure the disc doesn't have any scratches, finger prints, & etc on the surface. If you clean the disc good and it still doesn't work, then maybe there is an imperfection on the disc (that can't be recognized by the human eye) that is causing the problem. Also, check to make sure that you don't have to run a boot disc prior to running the installation disc. I ran into this issue once before on a Gateway Tablet, and it would not let me reinstall Windows onto it without first running a boot disc, and then it instructed me to run the installation disc.

Most likely, you have set the screen resolution too low. How you set it will depend on what OS you're running. If windows 7 or earlier, right-click on the desktop, and select "screen resolution". Set to as high as you can.

How to reinstall windows xp thinkpad x41

How to Reload Windows XP Without Removing Files Deleting system files, modifying the registry and installing incompatible drivers to Windows XP can damage the integrity of the operating system, rendering it inoperable. Virus infections are often responsible for making the aforementioned changes to a system, but employees who have administrative access to the workstation can make deleterious modifications to the OS as well. Reinstalling Windows XP can repair the OS, but if work-related files are stored to the system partition, all of the data will be erased during the installation process. To reload Windows XP without losing files, you can perform an in-place upgrade, also known as a repair installation.

Step 1
Insert the Windows XP CD into the optical drive and then press "Ctrl-Alt-Del" to restart the computer. Step 2Press any key when prompted to load the contents of the disc. Press "Enter" on the Welcome to Setup screen.
Step 3 Read the license agreement, pressing "PgDn" to scroll down the page. Press "F8" to agree to the terms. The CD will search for previous installations of Windows XP. Step 4
Press "R" to repair the selected operating system. The disc will begin reinstalling the operating system to the hard drive without affecting personal files. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the repair installation. Step 5
Log in to Windows XP and sign on to the Internet when installation completes. Click "Start," "All Programs" and then "Windows Update." Step 6
Click "Scan for Updates" to search for applicable service packs and hotfixes to reinstall to the OS. Step 7
Click "Install Now" to bring the in-place upgrade up-to-date.
Things Needed
  • Windows XP CD

Tip
  • Make sure you have your Windows XP product key (found on the CD cover or on the computer case) available prior to reinstallation.

Warnings
  • If possible, back up your files previous to the installation in case something goes awry during the process.
  • You will need to reinstall all non-native programs and removable devices after performing an in-place upgrade.

Dvd rom not working wont read cd or dvd says no disc operating system was changed from vista to xp

Hello,

This happens sometimes when you go back to an older os. Go to Acer support page, enter your model info and reload the drivers for your model notebook. NOTE: Select XP os instead of VISTA. If you select the wrong one it should still work but error on the side of caution.

Good luck and post your results.

Windows not booting

Hello,

Regarding on your problem, the main issue their is the booting problem of XP after you delete the fedora operating system. That's common problem especially when the computer are in dual boot OS then you delete the other OS. Now, the reason why it usually fall into this problem its just because the XP is your core OS then you install Linux Fedora inside in XP so whatever changes you have done in fedora particularly deleting Linux OS inside XP affects the overall performance of your XP and eventually if you delete the Fedora without proper unistallation process done by Linux OS then the Boot Loader of your XP will also corrupt or delete that's the main cause of boot failure in your XP OS. Now the best solution there is to repair your XP by inserting the XP CD Installer and boot the CD to repair your OS or you can reinstall the XP OS without formatting the storage to prevent the lost of your data that has not yet already copyed a back up.

Please do this recommendation to save and restore your XP.

thanks

Many manufacturers have a seperate disc of device drivers that also need to be installed besides the operating system. a couple examples...video graphic cards, audio cards, modems...as efs_perpends indicated in his clarification request to go to your device manager to see which device has a problem? to go there, If you are running windows XP right click the My Computer Icon and select Manage then highlight device manager and it will show what devices are having problems. Samsung CLX-3170FN won't work on my Eee PC 4G

This printer is not designed for linux operating system, It is for a PC for microsoft OS or mac OS and it comes with the drivers to perform that operation. Samsung CLX-3170FN is a multifunctional device that request drivers to perform Functions with your windows os or mac os. NOT LINUX! CHANGE THE OPERATING SYSTEM!, that's the solution and you do not have search for PPd, all resolutions are in the os settings.
