Question about HP Deskjet 5940 Photo InkJet Printer

1 Answer

My HP 5940 Deskjet Printer has 3 lights flashing rapidly and simultaneously. The lights are the power button, the right hand ink button and the paper out arrow. I tried repeatedly to turn off the printer, but it comes right back on and begins the whole process over again. If I hold down the power button for some time, the lights repeatedly go through the normal sequnce they did when I would first turn on the printer before this issue. As soon as I release the power button, it goes back to the rapid blinking of the 3 lights. The only way I can turn it off is by pulling the power plug. I removed the ink cartidges and reinstalled them, have installed a new right hand (Black) ink cartidge, have tried a different USB cable and port on my computer, have disonnected the power cord to the printer over night and have removed the driver and reinstalled it. Same result in each case. (The color cartridge is fairly new and nearly full of ink.) I also tried wiggling the cartidges a little to see if they were hung up, but they appear to be free. Any suggestions to resolve this issue would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

SOURCE: troubleshooting on hp printer/scanner/copier

Hi,

This looks like either there is an paper jam or carriage jam on the unit,

Check the rare access door weather there is a paper jam.

Remove the cartridges and try moving the carriage( the cartridge hold) left to right and right to left and check if its moving freely.

After these try disconnecting the power cable without turning off the unit and hold the On button for 15 secs and then plug in the power cable while your hold the on button.

This should probably fix the issue.

Please do let me know if there is still an issue.

SOURCE: MP530 Print Cartidge Problems

Hi shortiered,

Sounds like your orginal driver installation has become corrupted. Try this: completely remove unit and its software from your computer, not forgetting to unplug all cables. Go to the folling url(copy and paste in the address bar) for the latest software for your unit. It's easiet if you create a new folder on your desktop and name it mp530 drivers, save down load here. Install software first, reboot and plug your cables in, windows will reconize new hardware and install it for you or it may ask if you have installation disk or installation file, click yes and direct download to the folder you created for your new drivers. I hope this helped a little, if not, hit me back, we have other options.

Thanks for using FixYa.com

Sincerly, cyyyd7

“Lexmark does not support the refilling of its ink cartridges. Refilling the ink cartridges can cause them to leak, thus clogging or even damaging the print head. Any damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges may not be covered under warranty”. Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.

Can't find ink levels for my HP Deskjet 5940

The installation disk for your printer has a setup wizard that monitors your ink levels in your printer. Go through the installation again as it will not hurt anything and you should find it on one of your pop up screens that it leads you to.

Nor printing

Go to http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00453087.pdf which is the HP online manual for this printer. Open it and go to page 92. Follow the recommended troubleshooting steps carefully.
Note: It is likely that the cartridge you installed is "dry". Or (and this one is no fun) the cartridge you purchased is not compatible with the 5940. Does the left-side panel of the wrapper carton have a listing of "5940" under the paragraph HP Deskjet ?

Also, if you purchased a store-refilled or store-recycled cartridge, it may not work. I had this happen once with a refill. Sorry, but you'll have to dispose of the recycled cartridge and purchase the reall HP deal.
