- unplug everything form the back of the computer: power cable, mouse, keyboard, monitor, network cable & speakers, printer, camera (all usb)
- hold down power button for 10 secs (power cycle)
- plug in power, keyboard, mouse, network & monitor.. BUT NOT printer yet
- it it turns on, you can reconnect all other devices
- if it doesnt turn on still, call manufacturer or bring it to repair shop.. possible motherboard problem
your pc probably freezed up for some reason, you can turn it off by keep pressing the power button. After a few seconds it should power down.
reboot the computer, he wil probably start a checkdisk and afterwards your computer should be fine.
backup your pc asap, and try to find the reason for the freeze (recently installed new drivers/software?)
Could be getting too hot. Make sure all fans, cooling fins, heat sinks, HDD vents and weep holes are unobstructed and clean. Many computers have a BIOS screen at startup that will display system temp. Start it up and enter the BIOS, check CPU temp. Most PC's will shutdowm or reboot if temp exceeds 140 (this can be adjusted).
If not overheating, could be fault in a memory module, HDD failure, or CPU itself. But that's not that common in the scenario you're talkin about
Possible reasons are bad power switch, bad power supply, bad motherboard, bad memory , device card is not seated properly. Suggest replace power cord to see if still no power, also you may want to remove cover and make sure all your memory and device cards are seated corrrectly. If you get a amber light at the power button, bad motherboard is likely cause
By what your describing, the board in the monitor that allows you to make changes to the display is going bad (sounds like the settings button). If it were a notebook you might be able to get a board replacement (just an example I know notbooks dont have this feature in the lid). Since it seems that your display is for a desktop, I dont think it would be easy or inexpensive to get a replacement board. You will probably have to get a new monitor. If you want to fix it yourself, pull the monitor apart and get the board out. Try an electronics cleaner and put it back together. If it works, great. If it doesnt, take the board back out and take the board to an electronics (tv) repair shop and see if they can solder in a new button. If that doesnt work your back to buying a new monitor. Hope this helps...
I understand that your cpu is not turning on and the repairer confirmed that it is the issue with the mother board. I suggest you to please check the smps fan spinning or not. If its spinning then then the issue could be with the mother board. If not try changing the power cables.
Next check whether your cd rom light is glowing. Even if there is an issue with the mother board, as the power is supplied by the smps the light should glow if the light is not glowing its clear that something must be wrong with smps.
Please provide us the result of the above steps so that I could assist you further.
