Dimagez3 Battery Options

I have a quick question i just got a used Dimage z3 it was working fine than just today i went to go turn it on to put in my new memory card, and surprise it didn't work. Immediatly i thought well i might have been an idiot and left it on so i went and bought Alkaline AA batteries to test it and it still didn't turn on, i havn't dropped or done anything to it... Is it more than likely the alkaline batteries that just dont have the power to turn it on or could it be more?

I had a similar problem. Someone in my house tried using my camera and it shut off without turning off, the lens stayed extended. I could not get it to turn on and thought it was the batteries, tried several new ones and recharagable ones, no luck. Phoned the store I had purchased it at several years ago and they said they would take a look...turns out my son put his new 4g memory card (meant for newer camera) in mine and it was too much for the camera. Technician took it out tried to turn on camera and it turn on right away. Some of the newer memory cards will not work in older cameras!
Good luck,
Wendy

Hey bray598,
According to the manufacturer this camera comes with AA alkaline batteries so unless you bought defective batteries the ones you purchased should work fine. I would make sure the batteries are inserted properly, and make sure when you turn it on the battery cover and/or the memory card cover are closed. I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Allan

Turn on camera and system error screen comes up and you cannot do anything to camera.

1st you need to update the firmware to 1.3u
download firmware here
http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/americas/digital_cameras/dimage-z/dimage-z3/software_drivers/index.html (this allows 2GB cards)
instructions are here
http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/americas/digital_cameras/dimage-z/dimage-z3/software_drivers/firmware/installation_guide.html
(instructions are a little vague on where macro mode button *flower button* is)
Also, you might have a bad SD memory card. format the card (erasing all data/pics on card)
and take some picks and try again.. if you can
If still a system error try a different SD card to get past error then update firmware with THAT SD card.
IF that don't work.... your hosed... ;(

Z3 will not accept a 2g card

The Dimage Z3 accept SD cards up to 1GB (Minolta says 512 Mb, and sold it with 16Mb). This camera is 4MP , and uses less memory on card, therefore a 512MB card will be enough for it.

SanDisk Flash memory card - 512 MB SD Memory ...

from $13 - 20 stores

PNY Flash memory card - 512 MB SD Memory Card ...

from $3 - 2 stores

SanDisk SD Industrial Flash memory card - 512 ... from $14

Here 1 Gb, try at your risk, but they normally work:

1GB micro SD memory card for Konica Minolta ...

£6.90 - www.mobile-laden.co.uk

1GB Flash Memory Upgrade Card for Konica ... £3.44 - Memory Express

Focus/zoom issue with Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 digital camera w/ 12x zoom

This is a symptom commonly listed for DiMAGE cameras listed on EBay for 'parts only'. Dropping the camera I had caused the same problem and carefully 'smacking' the camera once again did solve the problem but that may have been dumb luck. Sorry but it is a service task that may cost more than the camera.

How much?

please use my real email account to deal with buying my battery door. $10 or for $25 I'll install it for you. keithtracypierceATcomcast.net

I am no expert at all, and the only camera I took apart was a Z3, which I did only to remove the battery door. dunno if Z3's similar to Z1; it IS similar to Z6 though.
Just a guess: electrical contacts at the viewfinder switch?

Won't turn on

Try inspecting the battery contact points in the battery enclosure. Make sure to check the points deep in the well to make sure you have no corrosion in there. Just a little moisture can cause problems.

Also determine if the place it was stored was affected by heat of cold.

These are a couple of thoughts, maybe they will help.
