Hey inkfeather,
This camera is notorious for long delays in flash recycle times. One solution would be to increase your iso to around 400. Any iso higher than 400 can result in increased digital noise. Another thing you could try is getting a good set of NiCad rechargeable batteries, because these batteries should shorten your recycle times but once the start to lose their charge they lose it fast so have backup batteries.
