Question about Refrigerators

I have a GE TPX24PR side by side. The water dispenser line is cracked just after the connection and leaks when the dispenser is pushed. Can I but an adapter to repair and reconnect the line or do I need a new line. If so how do I replace the line and is it a very difficult job? Steve

The crack is inside the refrig just after the connection to the valve. I cut the connection and would like to know if I can get a new connector or coupling to put on the line and reconnect without replacing the entire line. If not can you provide some info on replacing the line. I cannot afford a repair man at this time.

Tim - from the utility you sent me I see that I can buy a 5/16" Plastic Compression Union. Am I correct to understand that I can insert the end of the water line on one side of the union and screw the other onto the existing duel water inlet valve. If not do I need to purchase a new inlet valve that uses quick connections to allow the tubing to just slide in? Still not sure what to do.

It sounds like splices are fine, according to this web blog:
http://applianceguru.com/forum1/24230.html
Go to this page, enter your complete model number, and you will get neat diagrams and parts lists for your unit:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/modelsearch.aspx?model=TPX24PR
Never replaced lines, but the diagrams may help you figure it out if you need to.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

When you say it is just after the connection, do you mean just after the connection from the wall or just after the connection from the wall to the inside of the fridge? Is it leaking behind the fridge or inside of it? Either way you will probably need a new line, and will want to get it directly from GE to ensure you get the correct part, and an "original" one at that, not an aftermarket 3rd party part. Call their parts department at 1-877-959-8688 and have that model number ready (I believe the full model number is a bit longer, on the back of the actual fridge, but they probably just need the TPX24PR since that is the "model line" and all those are similar enough and use the same water lines. If it is the one outside of the fridge it's very easy to replace, if it's the one internally it is quite difficult, I would have them or another appliance repair shop do it for you.

Thanks
Tim

Ah I see, ok yes it can definitely be replaced, I have a very handy utility here that has a blown up display of what you are looking for, so you can identify the correct part, it is much easier for you to do so since you are looking at the exact situation there.

Check out this link, it has the info on how to identify the part, and you can order it right there if you'd like:

    http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partse...

If that is not your exact model (it should be) go back to this main page and select it, as I mentioned there are quite a few models that start with TPX24PR, but they should all have the same parts in that section. But you can check out this page to select the exact model if you know it...

    http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partse...

But you should be good to go with just the first link there.

Fix water leak in water dispenser

Water leaking inside it
  1. Check the lines to your dispenser
If the lines to your dispenser are broken or damaged you will need to replace them.
  1. Damaged drain pan
If your drain pan has holes or cracks it will also need to be replaced.
  1. Clogged drain
If you experience any clogged drains, they must also be unclogged or replace. If you experience this at the ceiling of your unit it can be attributed to a clog in the freezer section. Remove the divider and let the insulation thaw out and dry.

My water dispenser in the door is leaking water from behind the lever whenever it is pressed

Hi Daniel Roland - There are many reason for this issue to occur, for example the refrigerator could have a crack in the defrost pan, a defrost drain line blockage, a leak from the water supply line for the ice maker, but most cases water leaking inside and draining through the refrigerator cabinet. Try confirming that the vales are tightened. If the connection is still leaking, turn of the water supply line to the water valve and take the connection apart. You can try using Teflon tape when retightening the connection to ensure a good seal. Should this suggestion prove to be ineffective contact a professional to properly diagnose and repair the refrigerator a good seal.

I have a ge Profile side by side refrig model TPX24PR or BR or BI or SI. When we call for water or the ice maker calls for water, I can hear a hissing sound coming from the front right corner and then...

That hose actually ran Through the floor of your refrigerator on your model. so the leak is most likely under the floor of the fridge in the line coming from the water reseviour to the outlet.

GE Side By Side Ice Machine & Water dispenser not getting water

you may have a pin hole in your water line to your dispenser or you could be leaking at the water valve itself on the water dispenser side. you'll have to pull the refrigerator out from the wall and look where the main water line goes into the back of the refrigerator. you will probably have to take the back off to see. be sure you put the back of the refrigerator back when you are through.

HOW TO REPLACE WATER FILTER ON TPX24PR

try changing the tubes - and double check all your connections, make sure they're hand tight + 1/4 turn if plastic.

don't be afraid to put something infront of it, empty the fridge you know, and just set it down and clean/check it out. simple maintence might fix ur issue.

Found a leak behind fridge, plastic hose is seperated

There is no connector . The plastic line pushes into the valve . If enough line is there , remove the short piece from the valve by pushing in on the white ring while pulling out on the broken line , and insert the main line into the valve with a little force . Check for leak by using water dispensor.

Icemake not making water

At bottom hinge of freezer is the water line to door. Undo connection in line. It may be a quick connect. To undo push in on one end flange to release, and pull out line. Put bowl under end from under refrigerator and make sure doors are closed. Now push water dispenser and see if water comes out line. If it does, the line is frozen in the door. They had some models that had air leaks in freezer door. This causes insulation to freeze and water line freezes. Push in on inside of freezer door and see if it sounds like snow crunching. If it does it's probably frozen. Also peel door seal back a bit and see if is held on by numerous screws. If it is, it may be one of them that freezes. Call GE. They may still have the program going where you get 2 new doors free. Give them your model and serial numbers.
