Question about Washing Machines

2 Answers

I have a Maytag front load washer that moves and knocks around with items in the wash tub. It does not do this when nothing is in the tub. I have visually checked the struts and springs. They appear to be fine. HELP! HTH

Thanks for your comments. My problem occurs when the machine begins to agitate. The entire machine moves and there is knocking of the outer tub against the inside of the cabinet. Additionally, there is total movement of the machine. The machine doesn't even get to spin before it goes crazy! Since first posting the problem, I have exchanged the struts and stainless tub with substitute parts from another machine, but I still get the same issue. I have checked to ensure that the machine is balanced. I am ready to throw in the towel on this washer!

There are 3 things that will cause this. 1)If you purchase a washing machine and the transport bolts are still in, 2)If your bearings are faulty it creates excess play and then goes out of balance when running, and 3) I think this is in your case, the wasking machine is on a very smooth floor like tiles etc. The springs arent able to do the job they are designed to do because the floor being slippery does not keep the machine stable. Suggest you cut 4 small squares out of soft rubber and place it underneath each foot.

The "cleats" inside the wash tub are actually called "fins". If they are loose try tightening them to see if the sound goes away. You should be able to tighten them from inside the wash tub. Some models have mounting screws that are accessible from inside the wash tub.It could be sign that one or more of the mounting shocks under the wash tub could be bad, the rear tub bearing could be going bad, or the drive pulley could be cracked or warped.Remove the lower kick plate and watch the shocks during the spin cycle. The shocks should vibrate some, but should not be excessive to the point that it causes an unbalanced spin.
To check the drive pulley, remove the 3 screws from the washer top in the rear of the machine. The top should slide back some and then lift off. Watch the drive pulley behind the wash tub during the spin to make sure the rotation is smooth and even. Sometimes one of the arms on the pulley can crack or become bent and cause the pulley to wobble. And this can cause the noise.
If the rear tub bearing is starting to go, the washer will be very noisy during the spin cycle, and you may start to notice some stains on your clothes if the bearing seal has been breached. You can reach inside the wash tub with the unit turned off. With one hand, push up on the wash tub and release. If you can feel the tub moving up and down (even the slightest) this could be a sign that the bearing is worn out.Center Tub Nut if its loose then re-tight it.-------------

Why won't my washer spin?

Sounds to me like your washer tub had a very unbalanced load in it (heavy blankets, jeans, or pillows, all piled to one side instead of evenly distributed around the inside of the tub), and it threw it off balance. When it began to wobble and knock, it may have broken the mechanics underneath the tub which make it spin. The only way to properly diagnose it is if you remove the outer casing of the washing machine and look beneath the tub for broken/out of place items.

Maytag hav2558aww, made loud squealing noise upon the start of an agitation

Possible item caught between basket and outer tub. Remove the front panel and tub top ring. Shine a bright light around the semi-transparent tub and look for item. Check the pump pulley - ride the belt off and spin it by hand. If you feel any resistance or grinding replace the pump.

Washer shaking very bad

It's very likely your washer is out of balance. The load has shifted and is not evenly spread throughout the tub.
Stop the cycle, open the lid, move the items around so they are more evenly distributed and that should solve the problem.

Sounds like something is knocking around in the back of the washer. On the spin cycle, the noise is very loud anyway, but it sounds like there is something banging around inside. The drum moves around...

ok open the door
make sure the thing is empty
try to move the inner tub
if you can shke it side to side anything but around
you have a broken spinner support

Need to drain the tub before moving

It should all be drained out of there except a little in the hose. The sloshing sound you hear in there is not old water or stored up water. It is a liquid in a balancing ring that is sealed shut but it sounds like the water is in the tub. The best way to get all the water out is to take a wet vac and **** out the water from the drain hose. Just put you hand around the 2 hoses to kind of seal it and lay it on the floor. Nothing more is really needed to move it. Just don't be too wild moving it around lol. Front load machines are usually very heavy becuase they have cement or heavy pieces to keep the basket from moving around too much in a high speed spin. Good luck

Found a white piece inside the back plate of washer

Hi rowdyg923

Nope, they are for shipping, they hold the tub inplace while it is being shipped. if they are left in when you use the washer it will end up wrecking it.
