No, sorry but I am not aware of any such bypass solution. What you can do is get the ink cartridge refilled by a local vendor, that will cost you less and as you said that you will be using mostly the black so quality does not matter in that case.

If the the printer has a Cancel button try, prerssing cancel several times, it may overide the ink error and go to a normal mode. You may want to try using the windows scanner instead of the printer OEM software to use only the scanner.
No, this is a function of these units, technically, there is no reason why this needs to be, however, the manufacturers, have made it so the printers need BOTH Color & Black, inks to be full, else it will NOT print.
Printer companies use different chemicals in their inks based on print head diameter and heat used to eject ink, using diffrent ink not supported for your printer can clog up the print head and make it useless.
maybe it have the ink level chip which can be resetted by removing the cartridge and oning and offing the printer for 5 times within 10 minutes coz it saves data of a cartridge upto 5 use before only.. and 6th time insert it.
Hello,
You can go to the printer settings (Start, Printers and Faxes, rightclick on printer and click Properties).
Click on Printing Preferences and in there should have a setting to print Black & White only.
I would take out both cartridges and put them in again. Realign the printer and the error codes should remove themselves. Try turning the printer off and on before puting the cartridges in again. That may make a difference. You can let your computer know not to tell you when the ink is low too. Let me know how this work for you.
Red flashing light on '8BK' small black cartridge on left hand side.
If this indicates 'low ink' then it is not alerting me on the monitor. I think this is something different because my printing has been interrupted. Aileen
