Ok, Start the laptop in safe mode.
Press F8 (do it a few times) just after the initial screens have faded when you turn the laptop on.
You will get a Windows Startup screen.
Select Safe Mode and press Enter twice.
After you get into Windows, goto..
Start - - Run
Type msconfig and click the OK button
In the new window that pops up select the Startup tab.
Click the word Manufacturer and it will sort the list into order.
Scroll down the list and remove the ticks from anything where Microsoft is NOT the manufacturer. Also make sure to leave your Anti Virus software ticked. It may list itself as anything, but reading the text will let you know what is what. If unsure, then just leave the Microsoft boxes checked and the rest unchecked.
Click Apply
Then OK
OK any other boxes that pop up, and restart normally.

Post back and let me know if you can now get in normally and we can proceed from there.

The screen you need is way before the login screen or windows has even started to load. This is only able to be accessed as soon as your about to start loading Windows.

You will see the logo page for the laptop go away when you first turn the laptop on. Immediatly after that start pressing F8. If you see the Windows Logo with the scrolling bar under it,then you have gone past the point and will need to restart to try again.

There is no warning for this menu.

Another way you may be able to access it is...

Start the laptop, wait until you see the Windows Logo. Press and hold the power button until it turns off.

Turning the laptop back on now should pop the screen up so you can choose safe mode. It will also give you an apology for not being able to start the last time. Select Safe Mode then press enter twice.

    Try this as well.

Get task manager up (ctrl-alt-del) as you have been.

Go to the first tab and select New Process (down the bottom)

    Type explorer.exe and press enter.

TURNS ON , GOES TO START NORMAL OR SAFE MODE, GOES THRU THE WINDOWS XP SCREEN AND THEN GOES BLANK

Follow the steps below,

Step 1: Shut down your PC completely.
Step 2: Turn on the Power button.
Step 3: As soon as you turn it on start hitting the F8 key on your keyboard until you get to a black screen called "Windows Advanced option". (If you don't get to that that screen but you end up reaching the blue screen than that means you have delayed in hitting the F8 key. start again from step 1.)
Step 4: As soon as you reach "Windows Advanced option" use your down arrow keys to choose an option called "Safe Mode".
Step 5: Select that and HIT ENTER.

Step 6: If you able to login then try accessing System Restore.
Step 7: Click on Start and then click on All Programs.
Step 8: Choose Accessories and then System Tools and System Restore.
Step 9: Run the wizard by choosing "Restore My computer to an Earlier stage"
Step 10: Choose a date displayed in Bold in the calender.
Step 11: Your computer would reboot and wait until the restoration completes.

Hope this helps.

I just bought a brand new battery and. left It

Connect the power-cord, and turn it on.
If the screen still goes dark, then the battery is *NOT* the problem.
If you can login and start Windows, *THEN* disconnect the power-cord, and see how many minutes that the battery will continue to provide power to the laptop.

Macbook screen goes black after I log in.

Since the screen does turn on at the login page, I would say that it doesn't seem as though anything is physically wrong with your computer. It sounds to me like it's a software issue. Either get someone to try and reinstall your video drivers or to back-up your documents, files, etc., format the hard drive, and reinstall a fresh copy of Mac OS.

When i try to log into my macbook...

try checking your disk / disk permissions (note:to verify disk you must start from the os x cd at the top of the screen click utilities -> disk utility->repair disk)in the finder window after login you can press command N (apple key and N key at the same time) open the applications folder and find the utilities folder open utilities folder and double click 'Disk Utility' select the disk you wish to repair from the list on the left and click repair disk permissions (note you should back up important files before performing any disk repair utilities) also if you cannot log into the finder you can simply insert the os x disk and hold the C key down after the first boot chime this will start from the cd drive (which may take a little while)

Keybrd quits working on laptop after ctl-alt_del to reach login

Repeating keys? This is a common problem for KVM switches if you go beyond the devices' capability. As you can see, GCS62 is a PS/2 KVM switch and it was designed to work only using a regular PS/2 keyboard.

This KVM switch does not support PS/2 to USB adapter. It might work but it's not guaranteed to work correctly. This does not work properly if you have a docking station for the laptop. It might work for couple of months then it would stop.

You smay isolate the problem by following the steps below:

1. Connect the keyboard directly to the computer to see if you will get the same problem.

2. Power cycle the KVM switch by disconnecting it from the computers and leave it unplugged for a minute or two.

3. Avoid using hybrid connection (PS/2 converted to USB) only for testing purposes.

4. If that work, then you know the answer is that this KVM only designed an work correctly with native PS/2 connection.
