You'd have to go into the bios and change the CPU speed or the BUS speed. I wouldn't recommend OCing a laptop, though, as they tend to get hot enough w/o it.

Start by installing this program CCLEANER found here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Run the cleaner, registry delete the results. Go to TOOLS> STARTUP disable all programs you do not need to start at windows startup. Next, Install MALWAREBYTES found here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ Run a FULL scan , delete any results. NEXT, open IE9 in the top right corner of the page is a "gear" icon, left click>Manage add-ons, Toolbars and extentions, disable any TOOLBARS and the add-ons you do not need, move down to Search Providers, delete ones you do not use. Toolbars and extra search engines are killers on IE speed. Trim the weight to speed up you web broswer. The more that added to your broswer the slower it's go to be. Same with your laptop at startup.
If you mean while working and just freeze (and before never did, none new software or hardware installed), the problem would be with the cooling and the CPU overheats.
Try using compressed air or just blow at the air vent opening (install RM clock management to check the CPU temperature)
Try to reset the bios, to do that just unplug the internal batery -the clock one from motherboard- wait for 5-10 seconds and plug it again, the CMOS should be reset on dates and custom speeds -if you overclocked you need to get the parameters again-
Disconnect all the devices from your computer.

once the system is up, connect to Internet.
click on start ->My Computer ( Right click)->Manage->Device Manager->Update USB Driver.
