Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hi, the Philips DVDR Drive that is in my RCA DRC8052N from the factory now just tries to keep loading and will not read discs. When I open up the drive and spray compressed air in it the drive will read all my discs, but when I go to record it starts to record for only a few minutes then shuts down and then reads the disc as "bad disc." It did it to another disc of mine.. I tried to see if the laser could take a pot tweak but I couldn't find the pots on the laser. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Hi.

Problem is evidently lens. Try cleaning the lens with Q-Tips and CD cleaning solution. Please be aware that manufacturers warning states that the procedure may affect warranty status.

Regarding the pot tweaking. If you get rid of the problem by spraying air, problem is not pot tweaking, but dirty, scratched or opaque lens. Here how to adjust a Philips potentiometer. Before touching the potentiometer, read Ohms, if you get in troubles set it back to same impedance (it should be between 500 and 600 Ohms). As said I think that the problem is the lens itself.

DVD RECORDER JUST SAY HELLO AND NOTHING ELSE

Possible that the loading is not completing and so does not go into head loading. If the head loads and does not run then it is possible that the optical unit is faulty.
Also it is possible that if there is no response to after loading of disc the fault can be failure in the controller processor board or the loading drive. Try and clean the optical unit and see if there is any result.

Why won.t the disc go to load. it keeps opening after inserting disk .when play is pushed it shows stop then ejects disk.Whats up with www.rca.com/customersupport

check the type of discs that are recognized with your dvd player. Some machines recognize dvdr- some dvdr+ some dvdrw+/- you may be using the wrong formated type of disc.Look at disc and see what type it is in the ring surrounding the hole especially if it is a copy

Philips dvdr 3480 disc draw refuses to open

Illustration:
This usually happens when you close the drawer with no disc in it. There is a strong magnet inside the DVD-drive that keeps the spinning disc in the correct position. But when the drive is empty, the magnet is connected to tough to its counterpart (no disc in between) and the worn out motor and/or transmission (belt) is not able to pull them apart in order to open the disc tray.

How to fix - "brute-force-attack":
Press OPEN and give the disc draw a couple of decent slaps (or snap at the tray cover with your forefinger) until it opens. Repeat procedure, if motor stops before drawer is open.

How to fix - "high-tech-approach":
Disconnect power chord. Locate the slot provided at the bottom of the device, near the smaller, left clip holding the front panel. Insert a screwdriver into it at the far right (when viewing from the front), so you can push a small white plastic-lever-thingy (can be seen thru the slot) to the far left. Now the tray is partly opened and can be pulled out completely.

Future outlook:
Don't you never ever close your old machine with no disc in the tray - or just start over again...

Try to play a disc and the player says ''bad disc''

Have you tried unplugging the DVD player and letting it sit for a couple of minutes? If that doesn't work try holding the power button as you unplug/plug the machine.

I have a dvd recorder/player Rca DRC8052N

you need the crack ! it seems that your players might have a onboard misfonction! it maybe coded for region 2,3 who knoes anyway try this its a workaround that usually works on lots of dvd players to unlock regions !

Press the title button on your remote, then hit 01. This will take you to the first title on the disc and bypass the region lock. To get to the main menu, do a chapter/title skip until you get to the end of the disc. This will take you to the main menu.

Hi. Look underneath (bottom) of unit, right under the DVD drive. There is a open narrow slot. Take a PLASTIC, or non-metal, instument, like a chop-stick, etc., & insert into slot. Start from the very right of open slot & move the instrument to the left. You will be moving a plastic slider that will open the dvd drive, Simple. Also, keep a dummy disc in drive & it will open all the time, but the drive will constantly spin & spin, overheat & no longer work. It only shuts down when no disc is inserted. I have rebuilt dozens of these models. What I do is after viewing disc, I remove right away, because when you switch to view from hdd or cable/sat., the inserted disc will spin all the time & wear out drive very soon. By keeping a disc out, the drive will last a long time. It is so easy just to manually!! open the dvd drive, each time. Better than replacing with a PC internal IDE dvd burner. Then you have to cut hole on top for IDE cable & power cable & the dvd burner/drive sits on top of unit because it will NOT fit inside. Plus, if you do this, remember to put plastic button on master slot seen on the back of new dvd burner. Also, another tip, if you save a show, ect, on HDD, burn onto disc right away, if you want to save program onto a disc. Another tip, you can hold onto stop button on remote, a few seconds, & dvd drive door will open. Hold again & it will shut.
