Dear Shaji,

I think u used File recover software for recovering the file. Same thing happened to me also. My brother got one HDD from his friend. I will explain u, how to recover or to detect HDD.

I have a suggestion.

I think u r believing in god. So first pray and put the HDD in USB port. After that also, if u are getting same issue means, you can give this HDD to some other great intelligent beautiful people... Like your MACHU (cousin)

BUFFALO TOOLS Buffalo Tools is a feature-rich suite of optional software included on many Buffalo Drive-Station and Mini Station storage products. Any or all of the following components of Buffalo Tools may be installed on Windows PCs.
Buffalo's Backup Utility is an easy-to-use and fully featured backup software for Windows PCs and can be used to back up one or multiple computers with a single Buffalo external hard drive.ECO Manager is an energy efficiency tool used to conserve energy and reduce battery consumption by regulating the power usage of the hard drive, cutting power to the drive during extended periods of inactivity.RAMDISK is a simple utility that allows you to create a RAM disk on your Windows PC which creates a small, but extremely fast environment to work on files in.SecureLock software for Windows provides complete control of the data encryption on your Buffalo external hard drive, providing password protection and software data encryption.

Only basic external hard drive functionality is supported with this operating system; some included utilities may not work. The HDD default format is NTFS; to work with Mac, reformat the HDD using Mac Disk Utility.

I would plug it into a windows 7 or Vista and the computer's USB. The computer should recognize it. Click start then computer and find the icon for your drive and right click your Icon. In the drop-down window look for 'format' and that should help you format your drive. is a feature-rich suite of optional software included on many Buffalo Drive-Station and Mini Station storage products. Popular issues: problem with Buffalo Technology (HD-CE500IU2) 500 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive My laptop is no longer recognizing the Buffalo External Hard Drive. When I plug in the USB to my laptop,

HI guys, I found a solution to a similar problem with the buffalo portable HDD that I brought from my friend. I just changed the HDD cable with the cable from Western Digital My Passport HDD and all problems were sorted out. Physically the WD cable is bit thicker than the Buffalo HDD cable. So suspect the cable is the problem. Please check if this is the problem with your Buffalo HDD before formatting. All the best

My buffalo model hd-pv640u2 always want format

People often feel panic when I see this. If I format the drive, will I lose all my data? If not, how could I get access to my files?

My take is that you may have to format the drive and then use data recovery software to recover your files.

It sounds like your Buffalo drive suffered some damage. The first thing to do is determine the condition of the drive. You can check if there are problems with the drive using the free trial version of http://www.hdtune.com/

If it checks out ok then you can try to recover your data with Recuva it's free http://www.piriform.com/recuva

Or if you need data recovery help this a good choice for low cost and fast data recovery. All data recovery work is performed remotely over the Internet from a boot cd that you download and the best part is they just ask for donations if you are happy with the results: http://FreeDataRecovery.us

Hi, My Buffalo portable HDD Model HD-PE500U2 was connected to my machine and got locked because of power outage. Now, when I reconnect the HDD, it says, "The disk is not formated. Do you want to...

I feel for you. Since you said it was a backup I would highly recommend getting another hard drive and backing up your data from the original machine before you lose it all, then work on recovering the existing one.

When the power went out it probably wrote garbage to the MBR and possibly other areas. If the data is as important as you say, I would contact a professional, one mistook could make the data unrecoverable.

I would suggest Electronic Restoration Services (http://ers-us.com) at 1-888-355-001) or any other realiable service.

You can always try rewriting the MBR with one of the many utilities available but be sure you know what you are doing. Only you know the value of the data on the drive.

Good Luck,

you can try some data recovery software. You can see

It tells the steps how to perform data recovery.

If above does not work, you may have to format the external hard drive (use quick format), and then use above mentioned software to scan again the external hard drive and recover your files.

Check the usb port function in the computer bios settings and be sure that it is set to yes. Connect properly your external drive. If it has two wire usb connections, use both to obtain the maximum power that will be need by your drive.
