thank you for your help, it was the battery on the motherboard, that's why it wasn't detecting the hard drive, I replaced the battery and did the reboot from cd/rom and I am just finishing putting all programs back to the computer, thank your so very much for your suggestions.

You have to have faith on me. Just unplug all the cables inside your pc including power cables. keep it like that for 5 minutes. Reconnect them properly. put a bootable CD/DVD inside the rom and check in the BIOS that first boot device is CD/DVD. Boot through it and complete the installation. Rest assured that whatever program you purchase. You can't delete bios until you remove the sticker from the BIOS chip and put a UV light on it or flash it.

If you can set in the bios the following this should help you...1.Removerable device
    2.HDD 0

Check that you have put in place correctly the ide cables for the primary master drive and all other devices on the ide bus.
Also don't use that last device on the bios device boot priority setting...

The system is looking for a device to boot from and since you have deleted everything from your HDD you need to set priority to the bootable CD...go into your bios and set only the CD/DVD to boot from... make sure you have checked the ide cables first and also that the hard drive is set on the primary ide channel and not the secondry channel, and is also set as master...

I want to give away my D620 emachines laptop, but want to reset if first so all my personal information is erased. How do I do this?

In order to completely reset all personal information, the only failsafe way is to wipe the hard drive (and even this is not failsafe).
Look at this program. This program will allow you to make a bootable disk (eg USB). After you create the disk, reboot your computer and press the Boot Order key (on a Dell D620, its F12). Select USB. The Kill Disk program will load, allowing you to completely wipe your hard drive (eg. by overwriting everything with 0's). This will probably take a while, depending on the size of your hard drive.

I want to erase everything on my external hard drive. How do I do this?

If you aren't sure what you're doing, bring it to a service tech or you may render that external hard drive completely useless:
Before you start cleaning make sure you back everything up onto another disk. If you are giving your computer away check with the person or organization to see if they plan on cleaning your hard drive for you. However, the best thing to do is to clean it yourself.
Download a hard drive cleaning program or go to a computer store that sells computer software and buy the program. This is the safest way to make sure the hard drive is all wiped clean. Running the software program over writes all the data on your drive, making the hard drive impossible for anyone to read. The software works by over writing the drive many times.
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time in wiping your hard drive clean because if you have a lot of stuff it will take longer to clean.
Once your running your program and the box comes up to erase your hard drive don't forget that this process is irreversible. You will now type in the word format drive letter and hit confirm that you want to erase everything on your computer.
Installing a new external hard drive if you are not getting rid of your computer, is another option you have. You still go about erasing the old drive because you're getting rid of your hard drive. Install the new one.

How do I reformat my toshiba canvio 500gb external hard drive for my macbook? If I go to disk utility and erase it, wont it erase the backup software as well?

The disk utility programs should be on the main drive inside the need to make sure you tell the program which drive you want to erase..Say the external drive comes up as drive "d"..then you want to tell the drive utility software to erase the "d" drive

I am assuming this computer does not have a cd/dvd rom drive. You will have to get a external cd/dvd rom drive. Then you can run the cd that came with the computer called recovery cd.
You just have to put in the cd/dvd to the external cd/dvd driver and it should start recovering the computer. Be careful though as this will erase everything you currently have on the computer. Including programs, files, ect.....
thanks i hope this helps
P.S. please leave me a good rating if i have helped you out. thanks

I can't download a world of warcraft game cause it says not

Go to control panel, add/remove programs and remove all programs that you do not use, such as free trials, etc. Once you have removed them, reboot computer and you should be good to go. You need to free up space on your hard drive to install additional software and this is the easiest way to do it. You can see how much space is on your hard drive by going to my computer and right clicking on C: and then choosing properties. The picture will tell you how much space is being used. If you have allot of music on your computer, you can burn them to CD and then delete from computer as these hog allot of space on computer.

Install new program

I take it that you just want to run 10.3 and no longer require OS9.
After starting from the OSX install disc, run Disc Utilities. Form there you can erase the hard drive. You should then be able to install OSX.

Reboot my laptop

If you want to complete erase the hard drive and start fresh you will need an operating system disc, there no other way, other than going through and manually deleting every file and program that you don't want. Doing a system restore back to the earliest point, will still leave any installed files and programs intact.
