If you're concern about the price you can get the WRT54G since all router will work with any operating system.

What do I put into the Shared Key box?

The Shared Key needs to be the same on the access point and on computers trying to connect to it. So if you're setting it on the router, use whatever key you want (there are some requirements, depending on whether you're using WEP, WPA or whatever), then copy the router key so that you can type it in on the computers.

Unable to connect my blackberry to wifi. it says unable to authenticate network.

Try a hard reset: With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot 5 minutes.

Also check the wifi encryption is compatible with your phone?
Maybe an option to goto a cafe with a wifi hotspot and try logging in there ... does that work?
cheers.

We have a router so that we can have wireless connections in the upstairs of our house. The connection shuts off every 20 min or so. Do you know a solution?

Have you tried moving the computer upstairs to a different place to get the best signal ?
What is the signal strenth?
Have you tried moving the router to a different position?
If your signal strength is quite weak, you may need to get a more powerfull router, like this one http://bestofferbuy.com/2.4GHz-1000mW-High-Power-802.11b/g-WLAN/WiFi/Wireless-Broadband-Router-p-50909.html?currency=GBP&utm_source=gbase&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=gbase
they are about twice as expensive.

I moved and switched from cable internet connection to dsl. My router is not getting the internet connection, do I need to do anything special with the change from cable to dsl or a new location???

Hi,
I'm afraid so. I'm not familiar with your particular device, but usually DSL/cable routers are completely different beasts and are rarely compatible with both connection types.
It might be worth checking with your ISP - they should be well aware of what kit is compatible with your current connection.
Hope this helps,
Good luck,
Raf

Proxim skyline 802.11a cardbus card troubleshooting

Hi,

you need an access point or wireless router. Over here in the UK 802.11a you require a licence for class a devices. However all of the proxim decvices I have used in the past have been A/B/G compliant so you if your particular card is A/B/G compliant then you should be able to get a B/G class access point or router.

Hope this helps, please let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards

Nick

Ntl:Home Compatibility

When you say the networking is fine, I assume that you can connect all wireless devices together and access the router menu on IP 192.168.2.2 (refer page 23)

Is it possible that when you connect the router to the modem that both are trying to assign an IP to the other?

My router is set to get it's WAN IP from the modem (it's a d-link though)

refer to the manual on page 28- try setting the WAN/internet setting to dynamic. You should leave the host name blank and not clone the MAC address.

Post back results and I will try to assist further if required

Connection to Access point periodically lost

I have recently gone through the process of setting up a wireless network in my home and I found that a lot of routers and access points 9especially in the wireless N and MIMO categories) have that same problem. Are you trying to go with wireless N? If so then you must be careful what you buy because cross brand connections are not always compatible and also most N routers on the market today do things like drop the connection for no reason. I would recommend the apple airport if you are looking for a good router in the N category. I know they are expensive, but after trying out 5 different routers including all the top brands, I came across the airport and haven't had a problem since. This issue you are having is likely a problem with the router itself.
