Cpu info keeps tellimg me the cpu speed is 598 mhz. If i try to run dragon naturally speaking i am told my processor speed is not adequate. My toshiba L30 ( also with a celeron 1.6 ) shows up as a 1.6 and runs Dragon with no trouble. But I cannot get this portege to run faster than 600. systems info tells me there is a 1.6 g cpu but the speed is always 600, even after i put it on max perormance, run speed step etc, etc, It is driving me mad.

Can run windows 8 on IBM intellistation z pro ?

IBM IntelliStation zPro came with different CPU chips through 1997 to 2006. Depending on which year or type your machine is will determine if you can upgrade to Windows8.

The chips used were

IntelliStation Z Pro

Type 6899 (March 1997 to ??)

Type 6865 (October 1998 to April 2000)
Type 6866 (January 2000 to March 2002)
Type 6894 (May 2001 to June 2002)
Type 6221 (November 2002 to February 2005)
  • Dual Intel Xeon at 2.4, 2.67, 2.8 or 3.2 GHz
Type 6223 (August 2004 to March 2007)
  • Dual Intel Xeon with Intel 64 (formerly EM64T) at 3.0, 3.2, 3.4, 3.6 or 3.8 GHz
Type 9228 (June 2006)
  • Dual Intel Xeon Model 5130, 5140, 5150 or 5160
Windows 8 If you want to run Windows 8 on your PC, here's what it takes:
  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2 (more info)
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
  • Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
As you have Type 6223 which a Xeon faster than 1GHz it should work with Windows 8 but not all Xeon processors are compatible depending on which one you have. See this Microsoft site after you check your Xeon chip family on the motherboard or through the Windows system command. Search for xeon.

This machine was running a 1.2 processor which I now know is the fastest processor the mobo will support. However, and before I knew this, I placed a 1.53 processor (AX1800DMT3C) in the slot and the bios...

The original CPU was 1200 Mhz, namely 12 times the 100 Mhz "clocking" supplied by the motherboard.
The new CPU is 1.53 Mhz, namely 11.5 times a 133 Mhz clocking, if the motherboard can supply that rate of clocking.

If your motherboard can only supply 100 Mhz clocking,
then the new CPU would run at 1150 Mhz (namely its 11.5 multiplier over the 100 Mhz clocking), i.e., slower than the original CPU.

Can you try the 1.2 processor in some other motherboard?
It's possible that you "killed" it, when you removed it,
or after you removed it, by giving it a static-electricity burst.

Do you have another processor that you can try in your motherboard?

What happens if you put the 1.53 processor into the motherboard?
Does it POST (Power On Self Test) ?

Computer will not let me change cpu frequencies

Sounds like an old motherboard or CPU. Some have auto sense and will not let you overclock it no matter what you do.

Flash video: make sure you the most up to date adobe flash player from their web site. Some flash players may have operating requirements that may exceed your CPU, memory, video card.

Acer aspire 3050 (XP2) - cpu speed nearly always about 800 mhz (1/2 speed) even tho settings are for max speed etc

I fixed this problem by uninstalling the Acer management suite, everything much faster now and the operating system has facilities for changing everything you need to anyway.

I have PORTEGE 600 and not able to play DVD, getting error "video memory low for DVD playback"

Check the amount of ram in Ur system. Recommend 512 Mb or more. Look under the control panel - system - device hardware and see if the DVD is installed correct. (No yellow or red markers).
If there are, uninstall the DVD, keep connected, and reboot. When it detects the DVD, use the cd to load driver only.

Raising stock processor speed.

Sorry my friend but Dell doesn't support overclocking. You need a new motherboard and power supply and a better cpu heatsink to overclock your Dell. You would need extra fans too. They lock there BIOS settings as far as 1:1 clocking to prevent troubleshooting issues and they want you to buy something faster if you want something faster. I don't know how old your machine is but any attempt at overclocking would also void the warranty. They even recommend using just one brand of memory even though there are many that would work.
