Did you put an EYEPIECE into the focuser? Probably NOT.

Take the scope out in the day time, put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. Practice focusing on a distant object. TURN the focuser knob slowly until the object comes into sharp focus.

You do not have enough BACK-FOCUS, you need an extension tube for the focuser like this one:

I don't understand about looking through the eyepiece holder. Is there an eyepiece in the holder? Without it you won't see anything. With it, you will see fuzzy blobs if it isn't in focus. Try using the least powerful eyepiece that you have to start with. Finding focus with the more powerful ones takes practice.

I also don't understand what the black felt you refer to is. Telescopes normally have a protective cap over the front opening, which is removed for viewing, but I have never seen one made of felt.

I have a bushnell 78-8876 scope , AM i cant get an image

Put the eyepiece with the LARGEST number into the focuser. DO NOT USE the 2x barlow if you have one. Practice focusing during the day time on a distant object.

If this is a reflector style telescope the focuser is on the UP END of the telescope. The mirror is the bottom of the telescope. Remove the lens cap.

I cant get an image or focus

Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. DO NOT USE the 2 x barlow if you have one. Go outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object, by turning the knob on the focuser in both directions until you see a sharp image.

I bought a skyquest xt10i telescope and am trying

A star is always just a point of light no matter what magnification you use! If you are seeing a "disk" when you focus on a star you are NOT focused! Make it a tiny dot.

Why not try focusing on the moon or Mars and Saturn. You will always need to re=focus slightly when you move to another sky object.

How do I focus on the moon. Model 1400150. I have been gifted this telescope. Tried to focus on moon. Dont know how. Took big cap off end. Looked throughscope on top of large cylinder. Tried to focus...

first, use the lowest power eyepiece, that's the one with the high number on it with 'mm' after the number.

for a refractor telescope (uses lenses), you might have to add a diagnal lens (either 45 degree or 90 degree, whichever one you have) to focus on an object.
attach it in this order:

low power eyepiece-->diagnal lens-->main telescope

for a reflector telescope (uses mirrors, a telescope with a big tube with a mirror at the bottom and a focusing knob on one side of the tube). the open part of the tube points to your target.

hope this helps :D

I cant figure out how to get the lenses to work?

If this is a small TASCO or BUSNELL telescope you bought a toy telescope--

Try this-- put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the telescope. This is your lowest magnification. Go outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object-- try to see the moon at night once you learn how to focus.

Etx cant focus

The LPI camera will HIGHLY magnify the image-- about like a 6mm -8mm eyepiece-- tiny adjustments are needed to focus. You can buy a .5 or .3 focal reducer which will widen the field of view and make it easier to focus--

On my LX90 --- it takes about 20 TURNS of the focus knob to go between the eyepiece view and the camera view!

My son got a telescope and we are unable to focus on anything.

Use the lowest magnification eyepiece which is the one with the largest number on it--- DO NOT use the barlow which will DOUBLE the magnification!

Go outside and focus on a distant object (during the daytime) and practice focusing the telescope. Move the focus know slowly in and out until you get a sharp image.

I cant see clearly in my telescope not matter how much i adjust the focus lines

If it is a focused image but hazy or foggy, you have to clean the optics in your telescope. If you have a focus problem but a clean image, then you are having travel limitations of your focus equipment usually rack and pinion. Wearing eyeglasses can also effect that mechanical problem and so does other added components like "Barlow Lenses" that are used to double or triple eyepiece magnifications. You might also have the lenses in the optical system not in the right order or direction when it was taken apart.
