Not recognized I have just installed a new DVD RW Liteon 20a1p, attatched all the same cables as my old drive, moved the jumper to master, just like the old one. The computer (XP) seems to think it's a CD drive. It ca recognize cd's but if I put a blank DVD in, it thinks there's nothing there, and in My Computer, it's called a CD drive. Help! Go into your BIOS and see if you can get it to autodetect the drive. You should be able to this but I can't tell you how to because all BIOS setups are different.

Then save your BIOS and reboot.

The drive should then be recognised as the right thing.

Hope this helps

Need drivers

a disk drive does not need to have drivers installed. they are built in. if your system does not recognize the drive you have a problem.a few things come to mind and i will list them in order of easiest to hardest to fix.
1 make sure the power supply connector and the ribbon wire are correctly and FULLY plugged in.
2 look at the ribbon wire to it (the widest one) see if it has blue plugs or black plugs. if it is blue you must make sure the jumper on the back of the drive is set to CS (cable select) this will let the cable decide if it is master or slave. it decides this by which plug is used.
if it is black you must manually set the jumper to either MA (master) or SL (slave). if it is the only thing hooked to that ribbon wire select MA. if there is another drive hooked to that ribbon wire, see what that is set to and set the new drive to the other one. fir instance if the other drive is the master this one must be the slave or vice versa.
your most likely problem is the jumper is set incorrectly. but the others are easier to fix. just push the wires on better. lol.
hope i helped.

I installed a LiteOn SOHR-5239v cd-rw drive. It doesn't show up on my computer and i looked on the website and couldn't find the driver.

Ok thats probably your problem. J
You will have to remove the DVD drive once it is removed look at the back it will look like this,
I have indicated where the jumpers are located. The jumpers tell the computer how to read the drive (every IDE drive hard drive, cd/dvd rom, floppy drive has them) the options are Master (meaning it is the main drive), Slave (secondary drive), and Cable Select (the cable decides how the drive will be read).
There are two ways to connect the drive to the motherboard one is to split the IDE Cable with the hard drive the other is the drive has its own IDE Cable and plugs in next to the hard drive.
If you are sharing the cable with the hard drive configure the jumper as Cable Select,
If your drive connects with its own cable select Master.
To do this pull out the jumper and insert it in the location you want.

Compurt is not recognizing a new LG 22x Internal DVD rec

Change the Master/Slave/CableSelect(CS) jumper on the back of the drive (between the power connector and IDE cable)

Check that the IDE cable red stripe goes to pin 1 (closest to power plug) flip cable if needed.

Move Jumper to SLAVE position. reboot. check for drive in os. if it's not there;

Move Jumper to MASTER position. reboot.

If it's still not working replace your IDE cable and try again

Write error message with liteon dvd writer..

I had the same issue with a liteon DVD drive I had. It worked fine and then one day it couldn't write to a DVD if I paid it to. I troubleshooted it for a few days, installed all the latest updates and patches and still nothing. From what I could tell, it baiscally died. So fortunately Liteons are relatively cheap so I just went out and got another LiteOn and it worked just fine. I would consider purchasing a new Drive.

Drive recognized by BIOS but suddenly not XP PRO SP3

make sure you have reinstalled all drivers for all of your drives and what not. If you have, are there any notifications in Device Manager? To get there, right click on My Computer, then click Properties. Click the Hardware tab, then Device Manager. Hope this helps, or let me know what you find in Device Manager.

My LH20A1p186c Lite on dvd writer will not do anything. A simple swap into my comp with 3 cables and the comp. does not recognize the new hardware. In fact both dvd and old cd player appear tp be one...

Check the Master Slave jumper on the back of the drives. If using 2 drives on 1 cable, make sure one is set to master and the other is set to slave. The jumper positions usually are labeled on the top of the drive as "M" and "S"

If you have them set to the same, both drives won't work.

If the drive is sharing cable with a hard drive, try changing the M/S setting.

Liteon DVD writer & re writer

You can not use cable select without the correct cable. Most "stock" cables are not. So...

An IDE port supports -2- drives (CD, HD, DVD, Etc). If you have 2 drive connected on the ribbon cable then one must be set to master and the other to slave (the little jumper clips on the back). If it's the only drive on that cable, set it to master. Some drive may say Master Only and Master with a slave.
