I have got a Magellan Triton 400 which has been bought a few days ago (July 2009). I installed Vantage Point from the installation CD which Geomatics Ltd. (Magellan Turkish Dealer) prepared I guess. Then I downloaded Vantage Point 1.60 from the magellangps.com website. Always the same problem, my O.S. is Windows XP Professional, .NET Frame 2.0 installed and 1024x768 resolution, 32bits real colour settings are chosen. When you click on the V.P. icon, in a few seconds warning appears saying that "Unable to create DirectX device. Vantage Point will be closed."

The drivers you want are part of the Vantage Point installation. You are looking to make sure that the drivers in C:magellan drivers folder are up to date. Uninstall VP, delete the present c:magellan drivers folder and reinstall VantagePoint Version 1.94 or 2.00. You can find these files on the magellangps.com website
Multiple of possibilities. 1) Bad install of Vantage Point. Uninstall and Reinstall again. 2) Corrupt software in the internal system. Solution: Seek a repair center like the Jungle Ghost at http://www.jungleghost.com/repair_service.shtml

It sounds like you do not have the drivers install for your Triton, to install the drivers you will need to install the Vantage Point software that can with your unit or you can download the newest version of Vantage Point from the following link; http://www.magellangps.com/products/map.asp?tab=0&PRODID=1903
OK .. you could have many possible causes. The most likely is that the magellan drivers are not installed on your computer. If you installed Vantage Point you will find them under the c:\magellan drivers folder.
Now without Vantage Point being on just connect the GPS to the computer and turn it on. Then open up the device manager on your computer and you will see a PORT COM(number). Click on the properties and see if the device driver is enabled and working.
If it is not.. then uninstall the present driver and reinstall from your computer by pointing to the c:\magellan drivers folder.
