Any idea about htis code? Is there a way for a DYI to get manuals that have error codes and parts breakdown illustrations?

- Since I posted this, I have found out I can turn off the ice maker and the ER 1F code will not come back in. If I turn the ice maker on, it immediately comes back in. I took the freezer back panel out (ice maker fan is located behind it) and found the fan iced up. I suspect the defrost control is not adequate to prevent the fan from icing ice up. Replacing just the fan without the control circuit board will not correct the problem.

I also found LG does not sell to DIYers and only sells through their service centers. I insisted in talking with an LG customer service supervisor and received a one time extended warranty. The service company is replacing both the fan and the electronic circuit board under warranty. Needless to say, I would not buy LG again.

- See my comment posted 7/16/08 - LG replaced both the freezer fan and the ice maker fan and the main board under warranty - I have not had any additional problems. My problem was ice freezing around the fan and ruining the motor. The longer defrost time assoociated with the board seems to have corrected the problem. LG does not sell parts directly to a diyer - I do not have part numbers.

My experiences with the LG fridge:
This is our second one, the first lasted 4 months. the ice maker was replaced 3x I think, then the lights wouldn't go out, fried the light shroud and ruined a whole lot of food. We finally complained the the BBB and it was replaced Aug '07. The second unit now has the 1F error, LG cust. service rep. says unplug it for 3-4 hrs. We will but we are now going to look for another fridge. This may become a $2700 kegerator or maybe we can unload it on someone for $500, it is junk.
By the way, in searching for water filters for it seems that the Sears Kenmore refridgerators are made by LG so buyer beware. Also, I was told by someone at LG during the fiasco with the first unit that the ice maker stopping working and the lights not turning off were symptoms of a bad mainboard.

- this is our second unit, first one was replaced after 4 months and 4 visits from the serviceman for icemaker not working, he replaced it twice. Fifth visit would have been because of the light shroud melted because the lights would not go off (spoiled a lot of food).They didn't want to replace it but we filed a complaint with the BBB and it was replaced in Aug. 07. Now the second unit has a 1F error, CS says unplug it for 3-4 hrs. OK........We will be looking for another brand, not Kenmore either since that is made by LG.
I was told by someone there last year that the icemaker and lights issue could have been solved with a new mainboard, they said they had sent out notice to the service centers concerning those issues.- bmelegh

- I am having the same issue. The unit is two years old. This is the most expensive Fridge I have ever purchased and the biggest POS!!!. I will never buy another LG appliance. They are junk. I have had other refridgeraters that were more than 20yrs old. The only reason I got rid of them was the fact that they were out dated. I guess this is just like any other product you buy these days. They build them to break in order to get the service work. - sean1977

- My error message is ER IF. I called LG and they said to unplug for 3 hours. I left ift unplugged for 4 hours. When I plugged it in again, it worked ok for 15 minutes, then had the same error message. The repairman is coming today. LG sail it was the icemaker fan. My question is what would make this fan go out. LG could not give me any answers.

This is the second problem I have had with this 1 year old fridge. The light inside the fridge wouldn't go out and melted the light shroud. LG said thety were having problems with the light overheating.- calimolly

ER IF means the icemaker fan is malfunctioning. Common cause is ice buildup in the fan shroud. LG has recently upgraded that shroud to drain off moisture that collects in there. The icemaker fan, when looking in the freezer, is the one on the left.

Very common for the icemaker itself to fail during the first year, have replaced many. They have since changed the design of it and it seems to have solved the problem.

- There appears to be a problem with water splashing into the internal parts of the icemaker mechanism. The water then freezes up the works. You can try to make the unit go into harvest mode by pressing on the button on the icemaker (inside the door) for about 30 seconds -this will cause the unit heater to heat the tray slightly and the ejection arm will rotate and remove the ice.
