Question about Maytag 24 in. MDB5600A Jetclean II Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

My Maytag MDB6000AWW is leaving a heavy white film. Mostly on the cups and the dishes in on outside, although this may not be relevant. The arms on the top and bottom are clear and seem to be spinning, although I can't look while running. Is this the heatine element as described by other experts?

I have a heavy white film on dishes after the cycle. It is mostly on the dishes on the top rack. I've had this dw for 3 years and it just started happening. i use cascade powder and i don't even fill...

Hi
White film deposits are observed if water is hard or when you are using more detergent than needed, try filling detergent cup half way. Try using white vinegar after the wash cycle is complete, run a complete cycle. Also turn down the heat on the hot water fed to the dishwasher. Try using water softener for better results.
You can also add vinegar in the final rinse cycle. Make sure that your soap dispenser drawer is opening and closing fine.
Hope this helps... Please post back if more information is required.

My Maytag MDB7130AWB dishwasher is leaving detergent residue on the dishes. I removed the lower spray arm and filter screen. The screen was very clean with no mineral build-up. What could the problem be?

Replace the water supply valve under the sink and water supply line to dishwasher.
Over time as you can see minerals deposit in the valve and restrict the water flow to the dishwasher.
This is especially inportant on todays water saving units.
Many people replace an old dishwasher and hate the new unit due to a white film left on dishes.

Although you may have paid for a professional installation a new shut off valve is almost never replaced even though the waterline may have been at an additional cost to you..

Leaves white on dishes

There are 3 standard answers to solving the white-deposits-on -dishes problem: 1) Use a rinse aid; 2) use less detergent; 3) use vinegar in the washer. If you have hard water, none of these may work, especially if you've had the problem for a while. Because phosphates were ordered removed from dishwasher detergents, hard water minerals can now react with the soap to create a heavy greasy-feeling scum. That scum can build up in the water lines, arms, bottom reservoir, and filter, providing an endless supply of goo to spray on your dishes. This can be fixed. You need to remove and clean out the spray arms, the filters, and especially the array of parts at the bottom of the tub. I've seen up to 1 cup of coagulated/crystallized scum in the bottom of dishwasher tubs. Once you clean out the scum, then run the washer empty with a completely full detergent cup on the highest temperature setting, extra rinse. Before you start it add to the detergent cup 1 teaspoon of TSP(tri-sodium phosphate), a very powerful phosphate cleaner available at hardware stores. Your washer will now have all scum gone from the inner workings. From now on you must always fill both your detergent and pre-wash cups to the max and use a high temperature water setting, extra rinse. Chemically what you're trying to do is adding so much detergent that the scum-forming reaction is overwhelmed by the dispersant action of the detergent, and the extra heat helps this to be more effective. I am not a fan of vinegar in the wash cycle. Why? In some washers the vinegar fumes can reach the exposed contacts of the printed circuit board or touch pad, corrode them, and then your washer won't work at all, along with being very expensive to fix.

My Frigidaire dishwasher is leaving soap, a lot of soap, on dishes under where the dispenser dispenses. It just started hapening. Also, it has always left a light film on the clear glasses.

I scrubbed the screens with a brush and added two cups of white vinegar to the bottom of the washer, then ran it. Cleaned up nicely. I most likely will add a cup of vinegar once a week.

Dishes not getting clean, white film

Hello cljjtm,
You will need to clean the wash arm and unclog the spray holes.. use white vinegar to break down the soap deposit and a sharp metal tool such as an awl to free these holes up from any build up.. white vinegar may be applied while unclogging the openings..
Then, once the spray arm holes are freed of deposits..Start with an empty dishwasher.. and then start a wash on the hottest available setting and then after a few minutes of it cycling.. pause it and add a cup or two of white vinegar to the wash ( the white vinegar should break down any soap residue and allow it to be rinsed away)..once complete.. use about 1/3 less detergent than you have been. See if that gets your DW back in working order.. Hope that helps..
Regards,
Rick

Grit in dishwasher

Sounds like you have a low water fill problem or maybe a water temperature problem. The water should be at least 120 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit to start with. Gel soaps can cause a lot of problems with scum and leaving a white residue, mostly when there is not enough water in the dishwasher. After it fills there should be water almost up to the heating element. Also look for the water draining by itself.
