Question about Garden

1 Answer

Everytime we hit low ground and stop the blades, it quits and won't start again. We took it in and the mechanic fixed it easy, but didn't tell us what he did. I caught bailing twine in it this evening which prevented the blade from turning again, and it quit, again. We can't start it again!

I don;t know what kind of mower you have but if it is a push type mower where the blade is bolted directly to the engines crankshaft if you hit something solid enough to kill the engine it will sometimes shear the flywheel key. This throws the ignition timing off and the engine will not start. Hope this helps.

Mower starts easy , stopped after i went under a plant, can start again but mower makes loud noise then stops

Cutting under plants is always risky as there could be anything under there. Animals are bad to drag things under them.

You may have hit something that bent the blade, bent the crankshaft, or sheared the flywheel key. First I would check for a bent blade and then check the other things.

Without see the mower in person it will be hard to tell exactly what is going on so you are probably better off carrying into a local shop to have it checked. Here in the US if the mower cost around 100 usd we usually tell the a customer just buy a new mower if it much more damage beyond a bent blade or sheared key in this case.

Had my yard almost done when i hit a low spot and think my blades couldnt move b4 i could stop it quit and when i tried to start it back up it canked bout 3 times started turning over than BANG and smoke,...

This is most likely the flywheel on the motor that has slipped out of timing. You need to replace the woodruff key and set the flywwheel back in line with the slots for the key.

Hp laptop won't shutdown

Could you be a bit more specific? Could you tell me the correct sequence you spoke of? I am trying to understand , you shut down using the windows 7 shut down and it re starts? Your response didn't clear up my confusion. I can remember ever encountering this. Just a thought have you done a Maleware scan lately? If not try MALWAREBYTES found at : http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/Install and Run a FULL SCAN and a program CCLEANER found at : http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Install and Run, it's a good program to clean the junk files out and speed up you system. That a good place to start.

I hit a brick, lawnmower won't move help

check for bent crankshaft at blade connection point. do this by removing spark plug and turn the mower on its side with carburator side up, now spin blade by hand and see if it will spin without a wobble. if it does not want to move, something else inside the engine is damaged and probably not worth fixing. if the blade does not spin true, it is a bent crank and might be able to be straightened by a mechanically inclined person without further damage to the motor. also check to see if the piston is moving while spinning the blade if it will turn at all. Electric starter will not switch off, unsure why

Sounds like you had to disconnect the battery to stop the starter from spinning.
I've had that happen quite a few times and heres what i found and did to fix the problems.

1. I had an old american bike in the shop with a low battery. I didn't know the battery was
low when i hit the start button. The starter solenoid stayed engaged, and the starter kept
turning over the motor, I pulled the battery terminal off to stop the power to starter.

I check battery and it was low, i put full charge on trickle charge and then let it sit
a 1/2 hour before i tested it with the load tester.
It failed big time, dropped all the way to bottom of the scale under a load test

Installed a new battery and fixed the problem. The solenoid, start button, kill switch, key switch all works, it was just a low battery.

2. I had a customer call me because he ran out of gas, when he got gas he turned the bike over for a long time trying to fill the carburetors with gas,
Never hold the start button down for long periods of time. He did and the wires got so hot that the positive wire from the battery to the solenoid melted and stayed engaged.

It was an easy fix, replace the melted solenoid, and only hold the start button in 5 second intervals, allowing it to cool in between starts.
Once the bowls were full again and the bike starts, then it only takes about a second for the bike to start so you normally dont hold the start button for that long.

Hope this helps

Bolens st160 hydro eliminator 16hp tilling transmission .took the blades off 2 sharpen,1ata time, installed them, probably not in exactly the same position.started mowing the mower mows about a foot then...

Make sure the shape edge of the blades is installed closer to the ground. I don't think it matters what the position of the blade is.

New mower hit small stump, cuts too low now/ can't adjust height

It is a bend blade. I feel your pain...I had a riding lawnmover that took a good two-hours to take apart and chage blades and 3/4 of an acre with old ornamental garden root balls popping up all the time. That was a long summer...

You may want to get the blade ahead of time so whomever can help you look under the mower can change the blade once they confirm it is bent. Even if they can fix the old one it is a blade you will need sooner or later and they are not very expensive.
