There is no voltage adjustment that will help this. The only voltage adjustments that will improve the picture si the VS and the VA voltages, and they will only need to be tweaked if you have red or green sparkles or small dots on the screen. This is a tough one because it could be either the panel(screen), the Y-sustain or X-sustain module, or the control pcb module. Some techs are replacing all 3 of these boards to be on the safe side, but that would be expensive. Without doing several tests and voltage checks, it would be impossible to say exactly where the problem is. If it's the panel then it probably won't be worth repairing.

I own a Zenith 42" plasma flat screen television,

I think that some electrolityc capacitors are playing with you in the logic board section. This, in my opinion, is not because of screen panel. These simptoms are specific fo capacitors. When they work and get warmer, their functional parameters get wrong in the defective ones...

Red arching lines showing up on screen promident when a dark background is present

Red picture tube needs screen voltage adjust. Open fornt or back of TV and look for a black square looking box with adjustment knobs. Look for red screen adj and slowly turn rt or lft until lines just disappear. If screen goes too bright tv will shut down, just turn back on again and retry

These adjustment controls are on the HT transformer. (Large plastic block on one corner of the main board - looks similat to a distributor cap on a car.) They are usually a plastic pot with a cross in the end to fit a flat blade screw driver. (This is the large blocks Philips TVs usually have three adjustments on the transformer:

  • Voltage
  • Screen high voltage
  • Focus
If you can locate these controls on the transformer, make a slight adjustment to each in turn, noting where the control position is before adjustment, so you can put it back.
When you have found the right control it will go brighter or darker.

Before adjustment, set the TV brightness control to about mid way. Ideally the screen should have a completely black image to show up the scanlines.

Adjust the control until the scanlines disappear. Do not over-adjust or the screen will appear too dark.

TAKE GREAT CARE not to touch anything other than the control. HIGH VOLTAGES

KP-53HS10 Red blinking light/screen turns on and off

When a Sony does what you explain it usually only needs it's screen controls adjusted. This would be the first thing before replacing parts or any other trouble shooting, To do this you have to remove the speaker grill, there usually are two screws down low that are covered by plastic covers, once these are out the bottom pulls forward and slightly down. Then there will be another cover, remove that. Now you should see the inside of the TV. Near the front there will be a control ruffly the size of a pack of cigarettes and have six controls on it, Three are for focus and three for screens, Next find a video source that has no input, this simply means change to a input that has no signal, and gives you a black screen. Next simply turn the screens clockwise till a faint glow and retrace lines appear, then turn it back down till the color just disappears. Do this to all three, then you can re-glue them with fingernail polish if you want to.
Thats the simple way to set the levels on the CRT's, Sony's have a circuit that mutes the video until all the voltages are within a certain range, if the voltages are too far off it will give you the five blink error code, now if does not fix the problem there are other problems, This can be any thing from a weak CRT to a capacitor failing. And on a final note it is best to let the set run for at least 20 minute before doing this adjustment to let the voltages stabilize, and it is best to check it after another twenty minute to make sure it stayed

Sony KP-51HW40 51 in. Rear Projection turns blue

First reduse the G2 voltage for the blue c.r.t,and watch if the unit works for longer period (offcource blue colour will be not present). After reducing G2 voltage to blue c.r.t still behaves the same than c.r.t is faulty and you have to replace.
Pls count the red led blinking when it goes off, incase it goes to std by mode.

Black vetical line

It's either x-main or logic board... Take it to a qualified shop and I think you'll be impressed... Most of these are repaired at module level now and it makes the repair relatively inexpensive.
