It depends on the lighting conditions in the environment you're using them in. If you're in a field out in the country with no full moon, and only stars for ambient lighting... A Generation-2 set of goggles aren't going to see very far. But in the same spot with a full moon directly overhead you could theoretically see in excess of 800 yards.

That particular model has 3 different range settings for the Infrared Illuminator. Close, Medium, and Far. Although there doesn't seem to be any set value for the longest you can see, set by the manufacturer.

How far is the IR illuminator good for and is it possibl to change to a bigger LED inside the uit? Is this gen I or 2 tech?

Hello, yes you could but the scope is limited the clarity of the image intensifier tube with effective range from 0 to 80-100 yards max and if you get this out of it. The only difference here is the 1,5 85mm lens. Most lens are 45 or 50mm. So with the 85 mm lens which lets in more ambient light and with a brighter IR illuminator you might get a 100 yards or more. You have a Russian manufactured monocular the Famous Trails has installed their name and logo. You have a generation 1 ex-soviet union image tube. It painted green like the Soviet military. Sorry man.. GB...stewbison

I wanted to purchase an np 75, wanted to know if it would fit a 7mm rifle, or would the recoil damage this scope, also can u add an illuminator to this, and if it was pitch black how far could u see with...

il tell you this much i have one of them and i put it on a 7.62 full bore rifle,,,thats got a kick like a horse too! its quite happy sat on this rifle,,,(with over 500 rounds put through it so far) it did fall off though! my fault that was,,,i never bib it up tight? an air rifle has a far more damaging recoil than a full bore rifle has??? its true!
the russian gear may look cheep but its built like a brick sh*t house
and will take all the recoil you can throw at it,,
il take a bet with you,,,your shoulder will give up first before the russian nv gives up,,,,wont to pay me now???? you just lost!

What is the best short range distance to zero at? want to shoot from 50m t0 300m.

your kidding right??? 300m what the hell are you trying to shoot way out there then???? a battle ship? you will be very very lucky to hit the side of a hill at that range with a nv sight, its not even a good one? gen 2+ maybe? move up to a gen 5+ if you wont 300m+
if i were you i would stick to a range you could shoot at,,ie, 150m tops! and as you havent told up what rifle you have or how powerfull it is,,il have a gess and say its a thumper some thing like a
ruger 22.250,,,so set the sight up for 100m and it will hit every thing you aim at right out to 200m+
