My main breaker panel feeding our entire house built 1996 is rated at 150A. Yet if I add up all the breakers inside, they total 600 amps !!! Is this a safety issue? Is it up to code?

No problem. You would never have a situation where every circuit in the panel was loaded to its max. The panel size itself limits the number of breakers, and total number of circuits. The 150 A breaker protects the box itself against too much load on the buses in the back that the breakers connect to. No worries about this.

What to do if lights and system does not come on

First, check to see if the circuit breaker feeding the spa is turned on. Push the breaker handle firmly to the off position then back on. Next check the GFCI protector(if a gfci circuit breaker isn't used). It could be an integrated part of the cord, a gfci receptacle or located in the control panel. Once you locate it press the test button then the reset button. If these proceedures do not correct the problem, it is time to call in an electrician or spa tech.

Compressor keeps turning on and off, I can hear it and it dims the lights showing an increase in power draw, it will blow the main circuit breaker to the house. Therefore it does not run enough to remove...

If when it's running it dims the lights in the room or entire house, The circuit breaker for the receptacle it's plugged into, is not a high enough amperage to carry the dehumidifier and whatever other electrical appliances that are on the same circuit. OR if your house is hold enough (1970's era), it may have aluminum wiring and its overheating .

If it's blowing the Main Circuit Breaker for the entire house and not just the circuit breaker for the receptacle it's plugged into, Stop using the dehumidifier immediately!!! Have an certified electrician check your home's circuit breaker panel and wiring. This could be a dangerous situation.

Main breaker keeps kicking, yesterday it effected the dryer, washer and lighting! Turn dryer on and lights worked, turn it off and lights would go out! Washer wouldn't run at all. Thought the house was...

I would be inclined to think the main breaker is almost worn out and needs replaced very soon.If it's taking out the main instead of individual breakers I would get a good electrician on it right quick. Good luck and thank you.

How do I run from a 100 amp main panel to a 60 amp subpanel, 125 from my house to the garage

See 60 Amp sub-panel image

Above image shows drawing of 60Amp sub-panel located next to main panel. Drawing shows #6 wire... 125' distance to garage calls for #4 wire. I ran #4 to my barn and have no problems.

Give thought to how many new breakers you want at garage.
See photo of subpanel that holds three 240V breakers

Using drawing as a guide. Replace existing 240Volt breaker with new 60 Amp breaker. Two hot wires connect to new 60 Amp breaker. Neutral connects to neutral busbar.

More space: You can free up space in main breaker box using a tandem breaker. Or by doubling up 2 lightly used 120V circuits onto one breaker. Do not double-up on 240 Breakers

Conduit: You want PVC conduit large enough to fit three #4 wires. Bigger conduit is easier to pull wires ... and maybe later ethernet wire, or alarm wire etc.

Ground wire: You can put a ground rod at garage and run #6 bare copper between sub-panel neutral-busbar and ground rod. Attach ground wire firmly with grounding clamp.

I want you to check with local electrical supply for exact code in your area concerning conduit requirements, grounding, and wire size. Tighten all lugs very tight against wire.

Circuit breaker only half working - reddish flag?

A red indicator means a circuit overload has tripped the breaker. You mentioned a heater? Does the circuit tripping coincide with the heater running? There may be too much load on that circuit.
Contact the original electrician to see if he will come check it out ( licensed, reputable electrician should have no problem with this). If he gives you the run around, find another. Was any aluminum wiring found in the home inspection?

Pushmatic breaker keeps tripping everytime I hit

You have it shorted out somewhere along the line. If it is a light switch you are switching, what have you done lately to make this trip? Anything? You might have a bad breaker. You can check it by shutting off the power, pull the wire out of the tripping breaker, put it in another breaker, turn the power back on, switch the breaker on, then hit the switch and see what happens. If it snaps off, it is not the breaker, but the switch, the wires in the box, or the lights, or something along the line, you will have to check each one. New construction has made all lights and all receptacles separate, so if your house is old, you might be looking at receptacles too. Check anything plugged in to an outlet, make sure there is nothing shorting. Hope this helps.

GE Harmony dryer does not power on. Light works-

This is an easy check, and it might fix your problem, though it also may be something else. Turn the circuit breaker for your dryer outlet off, then back on. The circuit breaker will be located in the main breaker panel of the house. It should be labeled "dryer" or something like that. It will be a double breaker, meaning that there are two breakers tied together physically.

I am wondering if one of the two breakers has lost contact or tripped. That could possibly allow the light to work, but prevent the motor and heat from working.

It's an easy check, and there is a chance this is all that is needed.

There are other possibilities, but this is a very easy noe to check, so why not start here?

Clothes Dryer tripping house circuit breaker

If it is breaking the main circuit of the house there is something wrong. It should throw the breaker to the dryer only. It sounds like you are having a problem with a short between the main breaker and sub panel in the house. Is there any way you can move the breaker in the panel to a different place on the same panel to see if it is that circuit only. If not check the outlet and the plug on the dryer and make sure the wiring is connected correctly.
