Buy a dishwasher cleaner (which asks you to run the machine hot and empty with the soap inside).

This should clean the machine out.

So, your pot scatched the surface of your glas top?
Stop using those pots.
You can repair scatched glass with a very fine "sanding paper", similar to those used to repair the crystal of a watch or reading glass but you should get help form someone who really knows what he is doing

How to make marmalade

Prep Time:45 minInactive Prep Time:24 hr 0 minCook Time:1 hr 0 min Level:Intermediate Serves:10 (8-ounce) jars Ingredients
  • 1 3/4 pounds oranges, 4 to 5 medium
  • 1 lemon, zest finely grated and juiced
  • 6 cups water
  • 3 pounds plus 12 ounces sugar
  • Special Equipment: 10 (8-ounce) canning jars with rings and lids, funnel, tongs, ladle, and 12-quart pot
Directions Wash the oranges and lemon thoroughly. Cut the oranges into 1/8-inch slices using a mandolin, removing the seeds as you go. Stack the orange slices and cut them into quarters. Place the oranges into an 8-quart stainless steel pot. Add the lemon zest and juice and the water to the pot, set over high heat and bring to a boil, approximately 10 minutes. Once boiling, reduce the heat to maintain a rapid simmer and cook, stirring frequently, for 40 minutes or until the fruit is very soft.

While the fruit is cooking, fill a large pot (at least 12-quart) 3/4 full with water, set over high heat and bring to a boil. Place 10 (8-ounce) jars and rings, canning funnel, ladle, and tongs into the boiling water and make sure the water covers the jars by at least an inch. Boil for 10 minutes. Turn off the heat, add the lids and leave everything in the pot until the marmalade is ready.
Meanwhile, place a small plate in the freezer. Increase the heat under the orange mixture to return to full boil. Add the sugar and stir the mixture continually, until it reaches 222 to 223 degrees F on a deep-fry or candy thermometer, and darkens in color, approximately 15 to 20 minutes. You may need to adjust the heat in order to prevent boil over. Test the readiness of the marmalade by placing a teaspoon of the mixture onto the chilled plate and allowing it to sit for 30 seconds. Tilt the plate. The mixture should be a soft gel that moves slightly. If mixture is thin and runs easily, it is not ready.
Remove jars from the water and drain on a clean towel. Place a canning funnel onto the top of 1 of the jars and ladle in the marmalade just to below the bottom of the threads of the jar. Repeat until all of the mixture has been used. The amount of marmalade may vary by 1 to 2 jars. Wipe the rims and threads of the jars with a moist paper towel and top each with a lid.

Place a ring on each jar and tighten.

Return the jars to the pot with boiling water, being certain that they don't touch the bottom of the pot or each other. (If you don't have a jar rack, try a round cake rack, or metal mesh basket. Even a folded kitchen towel on the pot bottom will do in a pinch.) Add additional water if necessary to cover the jars by at least an inch. Boil for 10 minutes. Using canning tongs, carefully remove the jars from the water, place in a cool dry place and allow to sit at room temperature for at least 24 hours before opening. Once open, store in the refrigerator. Unopened marmalade will last for up to 6 months.

Maytag dishwasher Model # DWC4910AAW SN A9830611KY Doesn't clean dishes anymore...leaves white soap (Cascade) residue on all; doesn't clean dishes anymore.

msbcox -- Check for residue in the strainer under the lower washbar. Remove the lower dish rack. Strainer is under washbar. Sounds like it is not draining properly. Write back if you need more help. -- SWT

Top shelf dishes are not washed

possibly low water pressure...

racks might be in backwards if it's an older model with wheels on shelf system... rubber bumpers should face out...

could be a blockage in the upper sprayer arm... or the upper arm had come off and was remounted in a position that doesn't line up with the jet of water from below...

could be bad loading technique... sounds simple enough but you should never put large bowls or pots that lay horizontally on the lower rack because it really screws up the cleaning effectiveness. Large items should always go on the top rack or be washed by hand if they don't fit on the top rack.

My viking dishwasher does not rinse the soap scum off the dishes

Maybe . . . remove the lower rack and invert it. Look for cracked or missing plastic coating, exposed, rusted & possibly "swollen" inner steel rod/wire. If found, remove the upper rack and look for more of the same. What you think is "soap scum" is probably rust and other iron compounds leached by the dish soap out of the rusted steel onto the dishes and the dishwasher interior. The following worked for me . . .

To clean the interior (with both racks removed), set to "No Heat" dry, then "Pot & Pan" wash and allow to fill. Open door, dump in a bottle of "Lime A-Way", close & latch door and allow to complete cycle. This should remove most rust and iron-sulphate deposits from interior. If not, scrub them with Lime A-Way and a ScotchBrite pad, then cycle again.

Racks must be replaced (Viking are very expensive, Asko, Bosch, or other lower racks may fit: check your neighbors' racks for fit), upper rack must be Viking unless you can exact-match the Asko or Bosch equivalent.

Possible fix: remove the loose plastic coating and flaking rust with a knife, ruff plastic coating with ScotchBrite, clean with rubbing alcohol, then treat metal/rust with "rust converter" (hardware or home imp store), wash with soapy water, rinse, then clean with rubbing alcohol, dry fully, coat with "high temp" (orange or yellow) silicone sealant (auto part store), covering exposed metal and a half inch or so over the plastic coating. Let set for a day or two.

A trip through the dishwasher for all your stained stainless, glasses and non-metallic coated or non-metallic decorated dishes with Lime A-Way as above (on new or "rebuilt" racks) should get the metallic scum and rust off them.

Most dishwashers have a little filter basket in the bottom. Depending on the brand, you can slide out the bottom rack, and in the bottom underneath the sprayer (the propeller thing) there should be some sort of basket that can be removed and cleaned. You also may have some water quality issues, or some detergents will leave residue. Also, make sure most of the large food is removed before loading.
