    I have the same problem, the Case conector names are nothing like the ones described on the Mobo manual... I have almost the same conectors as you, I got Mic- power, Mic-Ret, MIC2, and that stuff... I was sucessfull only on making the front audio work, but still, when I remove the front audio Headphone conector the back audio wont always start, it only starts sometimes...

    I have the same problem, but when I try the blog link, it is not there. Could you re-post your answer? I am trying to hook up 5 individual wires from the front panel audio to the 9-pin Audio1 connection of a M863G V1.5 Motherboard. When I did this, I can get the headphones to work to use Skype and to listen to sound, but now that is the only way I can hear sound. My rear hookups no longer work, which is where my speakers are attached. I do not have a headphone jack on the rear, or I would us it.

If the problem dont have any connection with hardware failure like: wrong jumper, bad headset, etc.
here's the answer:
right klik on SoundMAX Control Panel > Preference
on Speaker Setup choose Stereo Headphones.
Just like that.

How to connect audio from motherboard p5s800

It is Asus P5S800-VM motherboard. Download the manual from Asus, click the link provided;
http://www.asus.com/Search.aspx?SearchKey=P5S800-VM
You'll need to download and install Adobe reader to view the manual;
http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/

Turn to page 1-29. Section 11. Front panel audio connector (10-1 pin FP_Audio1). Notice there are two jumpers. One across pins 9 and 10. Another across pins 5 and 6. Pin one is marked, AGND and pin two is marked MIC2. ECT.
This is default setting when using the rear audio jacks. You can not run rear audio and front audio at the same time. (So pick one or the other). To run front case audio remove the jumpers and connect the I/O cables to the FP_Audio1 pins. There is a work around. You can buy an adapter that will split the audio from the rear allowing you to connect secondary audio and mic ports. Open the link provided;
http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=2009&sku=40422
You can buy these locally. To connect the FP_Audio remove the jumpers and connect the I/O cable to FP_audio pins. Use Adobe reader and zoom in. You'll find each pin is marked.

Front audio in casing

The front panel audio for this board is labelled FP_AUDIO and is on the bottom left hand side of the board. See page 39 of the following; http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5PE-VM/e2609_p5pe-vm.pdf They're all labelled correctly. In your case, L-out - Mic2_L, L-ret - Mic2_R etc
