To correct the "An unexpected error....." while scanning, try installing the following update from the hp site. It works for the model hp f380 on vista os. And i bet there is no harm in trying even if you have different a model of the printer. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-69585-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=in&product=1128296&os=2093&lang=en

I saw the error "an error occurred during preview. if the scanner is being used. please wait for it to complete the task.and then click preview" when iam attempting to preview the scanned pictur how c

If you continue to get this kind of error after restarting the computer, you may need to update the scanner's device drivers or reinstall the included software. You should also make sure only one program or application is attempting to use the scanner by closing all but the one program you are trying use with the scanner. One last note - always either let the program you are scanning to operate the scanner or let the scanner invoke its default application by pressing the scan, fax or copy buttons on the scanner. Do not for instance try and scan an image into a running program that initiates the scanning process itself while also invoking a scan from the scanner's control panel. The two operations will conflict.

Hi!

The problem described has nothing to do with the network or network settings. It looks like a driver/software related issue, the operating system cannot get accurate data regarding the status of the scanner.
Please download and install the latest drivers and software available at HP, especially for the scanning feature, here is a link:

Hope it works!

Good luck!

Could you help me to operate the scanner., so that I can send docs,

make sure your scanner is working properly and the software has been already installed to the server or computer to access the scanner. this steps can help you to operate the scanner.1. connect the scanner to your PC, mostly scanner now is using USB cable 2. and then turn ON your scanner, place your material to be scanned like you were using photo copier 3.press the scan button to acquire the image 4. then preview the scan, the scanner software should display a preview on your computer screen 5. and now select the scan area in the scanner software 6.next set other options for example set the the color or the resolution of the document 7. then scan the image and save it into your disk make as your new folder. after you save you can now send this document.

Try connecting it on direct wall outlet. Not a surge protector or power strip

Try below solutions

An Unexpected Internal Error Has Occurred' Error Message Displays
Issue When attempting to scan, or, during the scanning process, the error message An unexpected internal error has occurred may display on the computer screen. There are three scenarios where this issue occurs. This document covers each scenario where this error may occur and provides links to the appropriate documentation for resolving each scenario. Solution one If you have multiple versions of HP Image Zone software installed on your computer, click here to download a patch that might resolve this issue . If you do not know if you have multiple versions of HP Image Zone installed, follow the instructions below.
  1. Click Start , point to Settings , and then click Control Panel .
  2. Click Add/Remove Programs .
  3. In the list of programs that displays, look for the following entries:
    • HP Image Zone
    • HP Photo and Imaging Gallery
  4. If there is more than one entry listed, then there are multiple versions of HP Image Zone software installed on the computer.
  5. Click here to download the patch. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the patch.
  6. If the issue persists, try the next solution.
Solution two Clicking Scan picture or image in the HP Director software results in an unexpected internal error or causes the computer system to stop responding. Click here to resolve this issue (c00369826). Solution three When accepting a scan from the HP Scanning preview window, the scanner may start to scan and then lock up with the lamp approximately ½ way down the scanner bed. This results in an unexpected internal error or causes the computer system to stop responding. Click here to resolve this issue (c00373192). Solution four When accepting a scan, the scanner completes the final scan and the lamp returns to the home position; however, when the image is being processed or sent to the receiving application (that is, HP Photo and Imaging Gallery), an unexpected internal error occurs. Click here to resolve this issue (c00373192). Solution five Immediately after clicking Scan Picture from the HP Director when using an HP Scanjet 3970 with v2.2 software, an unexpected internal error occurs.
