Whirlpool Micro/oven combo. Making loud buzzing/humming sound and no heat. Husband has replaced Diode, Magnetron, Two fuses (15 and 20 amp). Didn't even get to try to see if humming/buzzing is gone and if it will heat because now when trying to start, get "door" message on panel and inside micro light is not on. Husband replaced three door switches and has tested all the temp fuses..HELP. He has now given up and doesn't know what else to try....Thanks

Replace the capacitor and the resistor that attaches to the capacitor and it will work.
May have been the only problem to start with.

Thanks for the advice, but he took the capacitor and resistor to a parts repair store and they checked it and said it was okay. "Door" display message wasn't even the problem to start with. This occurred after he had replaced the Magnetron, Diode and two fuses. Tried to start it and then got the "door" message. Was told by parts guy to check temp fuses and door switches. He replaced all of those and still get "door" message and no inside micro light.

Verify the door switches to be good.
New does not necessarily mean good,
Double check that all are wired correctly.

With the control panel moved so that you can see inside the door locks, make sure all switches are being made when the door closes.
For the buzzing/humming verify the transformer output.

Model MH7130xez won't heat. everything else works. the clock, timer and lights. does this model have a fuse?

if unit won't heat, then there is a problem with either the magnetron or the diode. if its the magnetron, the microwave will sound almost normal. if its the diode, it will make a humming sound

The microwave is making a loud humming noise when it is on and it isn't heating. It also has a burning smell. We had this microwave repaired replacing the magnetron and diode in Jan. 2006.

sounds like same problem again.... the magnetron is what does the heating and if the display is working and just humming sounds like the mag is not coming on .... could be the capacitor but most likely the magnetron again..... i am a appliance /heating and air company out of texas we work on these things everyday and is very common problem... thanks a/c and heating unlimited good luck

Microwave won't heat, light ,clock works the microwave just won't heat the items in it.

hELLO THERE
when a microwave quits heating but every thing else is ok normally
investigate these 4 areas

Investigate these three areas if your microwave won't heat but you hear a loud buzzing or humming noise:
microwave_diode.jpg Power Diode

A diode is an electronic component that readily passes current in one direction only and blocks the flow of current in the opposing direction. If your microwave's diode has become defective, your microwave will not heat and you will hear a buzzing noise. Test the diode to determine if this is the cause of your problem. Replace it if it is defective.

picturena.gif High Voltage Capacitor

A capacitor is an electrical device which stores electricity. A defective capacitor may be why your microwave is not heating but you are hearing a buzzing or humming noise. The capacitor will have to be tested to determine if this is the cause of your problem. A defective capacitor will have to be replaced before your microwave will work again. Make sure you discharge the capacitor before you test it, though.

microwave_magnetron.jpg Magnetron

A defective magnetron is the third possible cause of why your microwave is not heating, but you can hear a buzzing noise. Test your microwave's magnetron. Replace it if it is defective.

Oven hums when turned on and doesn't heat, has burndt odor

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If it’s a loud hum/buzz sound then 90% it’s usually a bad magnetron and other times it’s a bad high voltage diode. However, from what you have described it seems to be the magnetron. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Micro wave not heating

It sounds like a failing magnetron. Sometimes they can be intermittent before they finally fail for good.

Chances are your oven has a 5-10 year warranty on the magnetron.

Please note that FixYa is not currently notifying us Experts when Clarification Requests are answered.

To allow us to help you effectively (at no charge), please post a
NEW problem to FixYa, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit, and your detailed symptoms.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

Whirlpool microwave makes loud buzzing noise

When your microwave oven won't cook your food, and, you hear a loud buzzing sound, it’s normally caused by a faulty (a) diode (b) high-voltage capacitor (b) magnetron.
The diode would be the most likely culprit of the three components. It’s also by far the cheapest!

Q - The microwave display counts down and the inside light is on,  but nothing is heating and the fan is not running.
A - This most commonly is a bad door switch, other possible problems are a faulty relay or solder joint on the power module, but a bad door switch is most common.
