Takes long time to start up

I m using intel pentium 4 processor with 256 MB of RAM and 80 GB HDD. I hv installed windows XP home edition. my pc takes atleast 20 - 25 minutes to start up n aftrr that also it hangs frequently.....

Okay, first off, I would get more RAM... 256mb is not very Windows-friendly. I would not have less than 512mb and 1gig is your best bet. Next, it could be your hard drive is going bad. Usually when a hard drive stalls like that, it is having read/write problems. The first thing to do is get off all of your important data, then set about trying to solve the problem. If you can, download this free utility to see if S.M.A.R.T. is enabled and if it is, what message it give you about your drives health.

For XP, it is recomended to have at least 1 GB of RAM to run it properly. It will run with a minimum of 512 MB of RAM, but very slow.

Here are some other tips...Increase your available disk space. Download where the activity is not so crowded. Set your security levels and opions to default level. Disable your firewall.

you could only upgrade the processor and RAM in this condition i.e.

you can only change your an upgraded p-III processor like 1.0 GHz, 1.1 GHz or 1.3GHz and
upgrade the RAM by changing to 256 in each slot.

that is all what u can do with ur pc
