Are you sure that you are plugged into a good wall plug and the machine turned on with a stitch pattern selected with a length stitch picked not a 0? If you do not have a manual go to singerco.com and download one for free.

What is a walking foot and what does it look like, please

There is a "fork" or straight bar on the needle-screw side of the foot that wraps around or sets on top of the needle screw. This fork/bar moves with the needle and causes the foot to pull fabric through the top, much like the feed dogs underneath.

Be sure you get a walking foot that will work on your machine!

When installing the foot, it helps to raise the presser foot bar as far up as it will go and that the foot is tilted slightly to slip in on. If you have a knee-lift bar, using it to lift the presser bar will sometimes give you just what you need to get it on. Do NOT bend the walking foot to put it on.

The fabic will not move under the foot feed tried everything !!! Hve the mauels but cant figure this out !!! help and the thread in the bobbin keeps knotting up Thanks

Are the feed dogs moving when you try to stitch? If so, are they below the needle plate so they do not make contact with the fabric? If this is the case, the feed dogs have been dropped to allow darning. Check your manual and raise the feed dogs.

Is the stitch length set to at least 1 1/2 or 2? If the stitch length is set too close to zero, the needle is practically stitching in place. Lengthen the stitch so the fabric will move as the stitch is taken.

Are you sewing very fine material? If the fabric is a very light weight, there may not be enough pressure between the presser foot and the feed dogs. Most machines have an adjustment to increase the presser foot pressure. On newer machines it is usually a dial at the top left of the machine or low on the left side of the needle. Older machines sometimes have a a round cylinder the projects on the top above the needle bar that is spring loaded. Pressing the cylinder down will usually tighten the pressure. Other machines actually have a screw at the top of the needle bar that when screwed down will tighten the pressure.

Our simple 3116 won't zigzag stitch, the needle is off to the right and will not do any other stitches. Help!!

It won't do straight stitch?
Take the needle out... see if it is moving the fabric when you press on the presser foot. If it is not, then you need to raise the feet (it's under the accessory box/table face. If it does move the fabric. Make sure your machine is set to Zig Zag. again without needle... sew. Does the needle bar move? change to straight stitch, does the needle bar move? If it does I think you have the wrong size needle. If it does not, I'm afraid your plastic machine has broken... take it in for repair.

Bar that hold the sewing foot is loose

If the comment already posted did not answer your question, here is another thing to check. If the screw that attaches the foot and ankle to the presser foot bar is tight, and the foot can still be moved, it is likely that the presser foot bar has become loose within the lifting mechanism. You could save yourself some trouble by taking your machine to a sewing machine repair shop, but if you would rather avoid that expense, do the following. Remove the needle bar and take up mechanism cover on the left side of the machine. This is held on by a single phillips head screw on the back side of the machine, which, with the back of the machine facing you, should be on the top right side of the machine. Once this cover is removed you will be able to see two vertical metal shafts, one is attached to your needle clamp and needle, and should be in the front. The other is the presser foot bar, and will be behind the needle bar. There should be a small allen screw about halfway up that shaft that tightens onto the bar. With the presser foot properly positioned on the needle plate, tighten this allen screw. Don't tighten the screw too tightly, as this can damage the presser bar, just make sure it's nice and snug. Make sure the presser foot raises and lowers properly, and re-attach the needle bar cover.
Hope this helps.

have you checked to make sure the foot pedal is connected correctly to the machine?
if the foot pedal is connected correctly, then the machine needs to be checked to see why it's not responding

Rod.carmichael4@gmailwalking foot doesn't work

Check to see that the lever on the walking foot is on top of the needle bar on the machine. When the needle is going up and down, it moves the lever on the walking foot which make the little pastic feet move.

Bernina 1090 Needle assembly stopped moving down

Hi,
There is a spring loaded catch on the needle bar assembly. It is designed to keep the needle bar from going up and down on command for basting. That way it can take fewer stitches while basting. Anyway, over time, with lint build up, use and not enough oiling, the needle bar clamp release can stick. It is located in the machine cover and hard to get at. It is located right at the point where the needle bar clamp (middle of needle bar) is. It looks pointed on top and about 3/8" tall and SHOULD be able to move front to back (as you are sitting at the machine. If you want to fix it your self, lay the machine on it's back to see up into the needle bar area, you can also see through the threading slot as well.to oil it with SEWING MACHINE oil (read not 3 n1 oil) and try to work it front to back until it breaks free and play with it until it springs back every time you push it. I hope this helps.

Elna walking foot

If your SU is an Air Electronic model i.e. 80's model, Elna didn't make a walking foot to fit. However, if you've got a walking foot that is the same height from sole plate to the screw fitting as a standard Elna foot then you could give it a try. The walking foot connects to the presser bar with a screw but the needle bar also needs to hook into a secondary lever on the side of the walking foot to make the foot actually move. Probably sounds very confusing . Check the movement of the foot manually by hand turning the fly wheel to see how it works before you actually use with the motor to minimise any problems if the foot doesn't fit.

Also you'll probably only be able to do straight stitch with this foot due to the clearance around the needle plate.

Needle won't move on Bernina 930

If the machines motor is running but the needle isn't going up and down then the baste stitch finger is gummed up and needs to be serviced.  This is a simple fix and it happens all the time on those machines.  Take it to your local Bernina dealer for a standard service.  Also if you really need it in a pinch try pushing up on the needle bar that sometimes will fix the problem but it will still need serviced.
