Step-By-Step Guide for Upgrading to Windows

Steps for Upgrading

But before diving head first into an upgrade, make sure you do these things first:
  • XP users need to be aware that they can't do an "in-place" upgrade to Windows 7; that is, they can't leave XP on their machine and install Windows 7 over it, as Vista users can. Upgrading for XP users means eradicating the old OS and installing a fresh copy of Windows 7.
  • Use the Upgrade Advisor. Microsoft's free Upgrade Advisor is an essential tool to download and install before upgrading to Windows 7. The Upgrade Advisor will tell you what steps you need to take before upgrading, including whether your computer meets the hardware specs necessary for Windows 7 (things like processors, memory and graphics cards); what new drivers you'll need; and if you have programs that aren't compatible.
  • One bit of advice: before running the Upgrade advisor, plug in any peripherals like printers, USB drives, mp3 players, etc. That way, the Upgrade Advisor can scan those devices and see how well they'll work with Windows 7 and if you need updated drivers for them.
  • Back up your hard drive. This is the most important step you can take. Upgrades, although typically successful, are no sure thing. It is essential that you backup your documents, pictures, videos -- anything that you don't want lost -- to an external hard drive, thumb or USB drive, or some online service like Windows Live SkyDrive. That way, if the worst happens, you won't need to panic.
  • Get a DVD, rather than a downloaded copy. You'll definitely want a full DVD copy of Windows 7, rather than downloading a copy from the Internet and using that to upgrade. If your upgrade goes wrong or you need to reinstall the OS at a future date for some reason, you'll be out of luck unless you have the DVD. Keep it in a safe place; a place you won't forget.
  • Don't use a pirated copy. This may be obvious, but it still needs to be said: the money you save by getting an *******, free copy will not be worth the expense in the end. Pirated copies are not eligible for upgrades, fixes, and patches. And when something goes wrong with your copy of Windows 7, you won't be able to get any help from Microsoft.

the best way is to upgrade ur PC , or format your harddisk or apply this settings as follows ===
Speed Up Windows 7 Boot Up Time Don't Try This To Make Windows 7 Faster:
Try ReadyBoost:
  • 1. Speed Up Windows 7 Using ReadyBoost
  • 2. Check ReadyBoost
  • 3. Speed test your SD Card, CF Card, Flash Drive, HDD
Speed Up Windows 7 BootUpdate 04/21: This tweak does not seem to have great effects on your boot time. Instead use a startup programs manager for Windows 7 and remove as many startup programs as you possibly can.
Do you have a dual-core or quad-core processor? Great, let's lower the boot time of Windows 7:
1. Click on Start, enter "msconfig" into the search field
2. Open the "boot" tab
3. Click on Advanced
4. Check "Number of proccessors" and select "2′ or "4′ from the dropdown menu. (obviously, you can only select it if you have a dual-core/quad-core).

I have a hp mini netbook loptop...i want to change the background using my picture...but it is not possible..plz advise me...thnks

Your netbook's Windows 7 Starter Edition does not allow changes of the desktop background. This feature begins with the next higher version of Windows 7 which is the Home Premium edition. It is possible to upgrade your version of Windows 7 to add more features by doing the following...
1. on the bottom left of the desktop, click the round windows start icon
2. on the pop-up window, click Control Panel
3. on the window titled Adjust your computer's settings, click the Windows Anytime Upgrade icon
4. on the Windows Anytime Upgrade window, your version of Windows 7 will be shown at top right
5. choose how you want to begin by clicking on either Go online... or Enter an upgrade key...

Receiving thumbnails OK, but Mac freezes while receiving full-sized images (not thumbnails).

Check available memory as above. If your Mac is Power Mac 7500, 8500, 9500 and OS is system 7.5.2, you need a patch (serial DMA) or upgrade to the latest version of the OS. Also, we recommend you use the latest version of OS for all other Macs.
