Question about Whirlpool MH1150XMQ Microwave Oven

Open Question

I have a whirlpool microwave MH1150XMQ (2004) I was replacing the lightbulb and it broke and shorted out. After replacing it... it no longer works. I checked the voltage at the socket and it reads 1.7 volts in all the positions (OFF, ON, Nightlight). I also removed the front panel to see if there was a fuse that might have blown but unable to find one. It there a fix without replacing the circuit board? Thanks Jack

SOURCE: high voltage surge

We regularly repair these GE / Samsung boards from customers nationwide with just such problems for $32.50. If it's too bad off, we can get this board (# WB27X10466 remanufactured) for $145. A new board runs about $180. We would need the full model number with suffix.

SOURCE: Microwvae won't work

Techy, that's where I would start. There is an internal fuse. Sometimes there up front where we can get at them and somestimes we have to drop the whole oven and remove the wrapper. Unplug the microwave and remove the upper grill by removing the two screws holding it on. It will pull off forward. The control panel has 1 screw on top, remove it and lift up and tilt out. See if you can see the fuse cradle and fuse. 20 amp, part number 4358704. The diagram I have shows it more toward the back but these diagrams can be wrong. If you don't see the fuse behind the control panel you probably will have to drop the oven and remove the wrapper. Catriver..post back.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: Microwave won't come on after circuit tripped

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

There should also be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Once you remove the control panel assembly, the fuse is located in a holder behind that area toward the top. The tech sheet shows part locations.

But you'll almost certainly need to have the control board repaired.

I have a mh1150xm microwave and changed the cooktop lightbulb. Still no light. A tech came and said that need to change whole control board. Is this true. Everything is working fine exept the light

I take it you did replace with a bulb designed to withstand heat.check the filament of bulb first these sometimes get damaged in transit.if the microwave is coming on then it won't be the fuse.if the bulb looks okay(you can check using another) finally inspect the door latch and the bulb housing and wiring to it.Sometimes door latch hole can get debris into the mechanism.cost of panel via engineer can cost quite abit..is it still in warranty? Price compare the estimation against buying new replacement.

How do I remove/replace the plastic seal on the inside door of a MH1150XMQ-1?

The clear plastic cover is glued on. It can be removed with a heat gun to soften the glue. Then clean with Goof Off or WD40 and alcohol before installing the new one.

My Whirlpool/Roper microwave/hood combo has the same problem. I replaced the bulb twice, checked the bulb and it works, but not in the microwave. I wrote to Whirlpool asking about the problem. Haven't heard from them yet.

Heard a pop microwave lost power oven still works checked microwave fuse and its blown ???????????

If it was not in use when this happened check the door switches. If it was in use the HV diode or Capacitor could have shorted or a door switch as well. Eric

some are normally close and some normally open when one of then don’t work properly causes a short and blow the main fuse check the all and replace the faulty one but be careful and don’t test the microwave
Whit the cover removed.

Note:
if you have a blown fuse buy several emplacement fuses because my take several trays to fix the problem and you will need more than one fuse.

About 95% of the time it is the magnatron. If the microwave is under 5 years old that part is often covered under warranty. I would check your manual. If not the p/n is 8206335 and it's about $80 and fairly easy to install. I just looked and the magnatron is covered.

Labor to replace it would be about $125
