the owners manual will not give you any repair info. Only use instructions. Your model has an oven safety gas valve that opens only after the secondary pilot heats the end of capillary properly. You may need to clean/replace the pilot assembly OR replace the oven safety valve. If you need the valve, look on ebay because these things are over $275 from Tappan.

Kenmore Elite Electric Rnage 2 years old model 790.9662. If you set oven to 350...never gets there or takes forever. I gave up after 35 minutes abd it was only at 235. HELP! PLEASE!

the gas valve on the back isnt on... the valve doesnt stop the stovetop from working, only the oven. You are seeing the ignition element heating up and thats slowing heating the oven.

Free-standing gas range: my igniter works, but there is no flame - no heat. the burners light fine. It's only two years old but is the "no frills" model. Thanks for any help! Stopped...

Take a real good look at your ignitor. If it is dim orange it is weak and won't open the gas safety valve. It should be very bright. It oughta not take but 1 or 2 minutes to light the stove

I have a Tappan gas stove that takes forever to heat up (oven) and I smell gas before it starts to heat. Help?

Thanks for answering my questions. It sounds to me like your oven's safety valve is going bad. There have been many times when I am at a customer's house and it has been a while since they used the oven, and it seems to take forever to light the oven. Just tapping the oven safety valve with a wrench or handle of a screw driver is all that's needed to open the valve and light the burner. As long as your oven's igniter glow bar is lighting, (glowing orange or sparking), then the oven safety valve is your problem. It is a silver rectangular valve in the far back bottom of the oven with the orifice on top of it and the burner tube coming down over the orifice. Try tapping it and see if that works. Otherwise, just have it replaced. Douglas

I have a stainless 30" wide gas oven/range. The oven works and the top burners will spark but I do not get any gas flow to the top burners.

If it is just installed, your gas valve inside the range might be shut off. take out bottom drawer/broiler. Look for a switch in the back near the gas valve, it should be turned to the right.
Make sure the burner heads are positioned properly with the alignment pins.

I have a Maytag MDR5755qdq gas kitchen range that will not turn on. The burners work fine. Do you have any suggestions.

Check the pilot and valve in the stove if it is gas. Make sure there is gas and pilot is lit. If it is electric, then check or replace relay/fuses to the heating element.

i would replace the igniter and go ahead and replace the gas safty valve eather the ignitor is not allowing enought amps to open the gas valve enough to light or the valve is opening to slowly eather way i would go ahead and replace both this could be very dangerious is not repaired.
