Question about Garden

1 Answer

I have a MDT 42", 16.5 horsepower engine I purchased used. It runs great but when I put the cutting deck down it doesn't seem to turn the blades right. I put it up on blocks and felt the blades and one spins very easy and the other is very tight. Is that the way its supposed to be? When I have the mover deck down it seems to shake so I'm not sure if it's a bent blade or if there is a grease fitting that the blade attaches to that needs to be changed. What do you think?

check mower blades for blade upside down. you may be hitting grass with back of blade. match blade position to working blade side. or swap blades left to right and see if problem moves. if so, blade is culprit. also cold be a loose blade bolt allowing the shaft to spin without driving the blade. Do all work with engine off key out!

Do the blades need sharpening? Check the belts for tightness and the spring that holds the tension. what stops? The blades stop, but the belt is still turning? Check to also make sure the blades turn freely with the belt disengaged. you may have a spindle problem too.

I use a mdt and I have found that if you put the belt on the spindles first then the tension pulley and last the engine. When it is time to put it on the engine pulley I turn it slowly by hand and it goes on kinda easy.Make sure to unplug the spark plug before you turn the engine pully

Have you tried running it with the blade back on? It may be ok as there is a braking system built into the pto clutch that makes the blades hard to turn by hand. Regards Phil

motor off= deck engaed turn blade should turn motor and belt fairly easy, NO remove the belt from the motor pulley with deck engaged blades should turn freely.
most decks have breaks on the pullies so if the deck is not engaged the break will be on

Airens Zoom 1944 ZTR Blades Slow Down In Bahaia Grass

You mention many PM issues but do not mention a blade sharpening. I don't get on my ZTR without a freshly honed blade installed. "That's" what cuts bahia grass...the blade. You can put all the horsepower you want behind the lade but if you're trying to cut grass with a 2X4 it rips more than cuts grass.
