The game is over heating and you have to get it to a place where it is free to breathe properly.if this persists call sony and let them know

Yeah, I did that, I also tried to get all of the dust out and left it to cool for a week! And it still does this!

When it starts it beeps 3 times and then shuts down

It sounds like it might have overheated, first let it cool down for a little while then and try again. If it starts working again, get compressed air and clean out the PS3, and possibly get an external fan to stop so this doesn't happen again. If the PS3 still does the 3 beeps try putting the PS3 in recovery mode by going to the recovery menu. Which can be done by doing the following.
  • Turn off the PS3
  • Hold the power button down; the system should turn on and turn itself off.
  • Once its turned it self back off press the power button intill you hear to beeps
  • After you hear the beeps let go of the power button
  • You will told to plug your controller in and press the PS button
  • Then the recovery menu will pop up
If the PS3 still doesn't turn on it be dead and need to be replaced. Best of luck!
