SOURCE: Not Registered
I had the same problem and this procedure fixes it! First, unplug the power to the main base (answering machine) for 20 seconds. Plus it back in. Put the phone that says "not registered" in the main answering machine. It will say "press the find handset for 4 seconds". Do that. It will run thru a series of stuff and will find the handset. It works! Rich (jambones.com)

SOURCE: Phones going dead
buy a new battery from ebay.
just type in the search box, 80-5808-00-00
(the battery number)
You should be able to get a replacement for around $6 incl shipping.
This worked for me anyway. (Same symptoms you described)

I've been having problems with short battery life on my Vtech
5.8 Ghz model CS5121-2. Tried "zapping" the 3.3 volt batteries, which helps for a while.
Determined (via DMM) that the base unit battery charger reads
10.45 volts DC no load - while the remote charger reads 12.5 volts DC no load. Xfrmr output is supposed to be 7.5 volts according to info molded into the unit. Might be the problem!!!
