Question about Maxent MX-42HPM20 42 in. Plasma HDTV
That sounds like the power section had a capacitor or something blow out on you. Unfortunately these means a trip to the repair shop.
If you can find a good tv repair shop then they will be able to replace just what went out. Typically the bill should come to about $75 if they do it this way. If you go to a average shop or the company repair depot they will replace the entire board that the part is one. This is safer as sometimes one part will weaken others as it goes out. However this can be much more expensive. You can count on spending $400 and up in this case.
So what to do is this. Talk to a few repair shops, and the local repair depot for Maxent if there is one. Only get a estimate. Have a look around the stores for the cost of a replacement tv.
When you know these numbers then you will know which way to go. Usually the new tv is within a few dollars of what the repair bill ends up costing. One gets you a new warrantied tv and the other a 5 year old tv that may fail again. If you can find the shop that does the component repair then I'd go that way, otherwise I'd get the new tv.
