Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater

1 Answer

I have a touchscreen programmable thermostat #TH820U1008. It was here when we moved in. We have a heat pump. Both the AC and Heat have worked the last year, but now I can't get the heat/air to come on. The screen works but every time I try to push a button it changes the screen for a split second and then pops back. If I move the temperature up or down, it clicks, but nothing happens. Also, the temperature its reading isn't correct. It says its 78 degrees inside, but its only about 63!

Um....I did. Lots of times. It won't hardly let me because the screen barely works and when I do, it doesn't come on.

Heat pump works but not ac with honeywell rth7600

Was there an Rc and and Rh terminal on the thermostat sub-base??? If so, there must be jumper across the two for the cooling portion of the circuit to be energized.

Howto hook up th8320R1003 to heat pump

Byron, unless you have thoroughly familiarized yourself with the terminal designations on all three components, t-stat, air handler and heat pump you shouldn't attempt connection of the control. There are many variations of what will work and many more variations of what will NOT work.

No mention of outdoor sensors, so fine tuning of the electric heating stages to match the heat loss of your house (for most efficient operation) doesn't sound possible.

I know, this answer didn't help but there is no simple answer without having all the components in hand.

Why is my honeywell 8320r1003 short cycling for hot water heat.I have heat set at 65 degress.cycling 2min,3min,the most is 8min.

Hi Bill, after closing your thermostat, is this correct the situation?
And how far is your thermostat from your baseboard heater, if the baseboard is underneath the stat, you should move the stat elsewhere. Hope this help you find the problem.

I do not have a manual for my thermostat

You have a heat pump unit most of the time the unit will operate in normal mode heat setting on your thermostat but when the temp of house can't keep up the emergency heat will kick in. With that being said you can switch the t-stat to emergency mode and that will take the heat pump out of action and bring in the back up heat. You might have electrical heat strips or maybe a fuel such as natural gas or propane. hope that answers your question Ken

AC unit not kicking on...

You need a "Y" terminal. "Y" is pretty standard on every heat pump. It is the wire that will energize the compressor contactor at the outdoor unit, allowing the compressor and condensor fan to run.

Cool air not working with honeywell Model # RTH230B

Do you have a heat pump? If so, not compatible. What i did was move the jumper on the thermostat (RH RE). This is on the inside of the thermostat - NOT the red jumper!!! and got the AC working (the heat had already worked during the winter, problem only became apparent when I needed to use AC). I may have to change the jumper again when the season changes...not sure yet.
