Question about Poulan 25cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered String Trimmer #P2500

4 Answers

I have a poulan 25cc trimmer (P1500). It's about a year old. Recently, after trimming for 15 or 20 minutes, it tries to stall out... eventually it dies and will restart and run briefly then dies again. Any ideas?

The filter is clean but I just discovered that one of the fuel lines ends at the top of the fuel tank. The other goes to the bottom and ends with a filter. Is this normal or should both lines go all the way down?

No, there is definitely oil in the gas but I just finished of my oil/gas mixture. I think I will empty out my tank and make a new batch.

It starts but now it will just run a short while and will try to die. If I work the throttle up and down it tries to run but eventually dies. It will restart but won't run for long.

Did you get my message regarding the part I found in the fuel tank? It wasn't posted on the web site.

When I poured out the old gas a small part came out of the fuel tank. It looks like it would fit in the end of a fuel line. It's green, about 1/2" long with what looks like a black star washer on one end. It has a hole through the center with a flexible tip on one end. I can email you a photo if you can give me an email address.

I'll try the new mix but I don't think it would start with a fouled plug. I starts relatively easily.

You can check a few things. Either the air filter is plugged up and the carb isn't getting enough air. Or you got a small piece of debris in the carb. Sometimes if it is debris stuck in the carb then you can just keep starting it over and over again and the debris will dislodge itself.

Yes this is normal. Does the trimmer start and run ok when it is cold still? For an example, can you go start the trimmer now and it will start and run for 15-20 minutes? If it will then it is overheating. Check your fuel, oil mixture. I know that I have done it, filled the weed eater gas can up with gas and didn't add the oil. That will for sure cause this problem.

The line at the top of the tank is a vent line.

So does it start and run now? When it is cool? Or did it die the last time you were using it and still will not start?

It could also be a fouled spark plug. I would put new mix in it and try that. If that doesn't work then the next thing I would do is change the spark plug.

Rick it sounds like too much fuel is getting through. Clean the air filter first and then try adjusting the jet screws beside the throttle cable near the carb.

Try cleaning your carb and even buying a rebuild kit. I do not think you have a blockage. Does it even try to start? Cleaning the carb will give you a chance to get rid of any debris or old gummed up fuel and oil that may be in there, give it a try. Good Luck...

Had the same problem with my SST25 and after looking further, noticed something rattling around in the fuel tank. The fuel filter had fallen off of the small fuel line (actually the small fuel line had broken). Removed filter from tank and small piece of broken line from filter connector, and re-connected to small fuel line.
